Dayton stations in Cincy PPM?

Just wondering if any of the Dayton stations (that have routinely made the monthly diaries in Cincy) are encoding so that they can be included in the new Cincinnati PPMs?

From what I understand, if you're wearing a PPM device for the Cincinnati book, it doesn't matter what market the station is in, it will count towards the Cincinnati ratings. If you go to Disney World while wearing it, Orlando radio stations will get Cincinnati ratings points, however miniscule. So yes, Dayton stations will continue to appear in Cincinnati books, and vice versa.

I realize that any station can be recorded, no matter the location. My question is more related to the fact that Dayton is not a PPM market and, therefore, I assume that no stations are encoding for PPM. Because I understand that the station has to encode for PPM to be registered on the device.

So, I'm curious if any Dayton stations are encoding so that they can be included in the Cincy PPM.

Don't know about Dayton, but here, just about every non-Cleveland market station encodes, and Cleveland is the only PPM market in Northeast Ohio.

Since PPM became currency in Cleveland, you'll see the same Akron/Canton stations you saw before.

Since PPM became currency in Columbus, you can even see stations like Wooster's WQKT/104.5 in the Columbus ratings, so I presume they're encoding as well.

From what I've heard, Arbitron basically hands over encoders to EVERYONE, even in adjacent markets and even small non-comm stations.

Simply check the latest ratings on this web site. You'll see several Dayton radio stations listed, some with better numbers that the local stations. So, yes, they are encoding.

Not in the Cincy market, but I've installed PPM Encoders on non-comm stations that can barely be heard on the edge of the nearest PPM Market. I wouldn't say they're handing them out to everyone, everywhere, but if there's any reason to believe a station has any listeners in a PPM market, that station has a good shot at getting an Encoder. Worth noting that the Encoders are made available to stations at no cost.
