Dayton talk.. Hot 1029

Since I now live in dayton I have gotten to experience the stations such as Channel 945, Z-93, and Hot 1029. When I can, I listen to 100.9 The Wiz out of Cincinnati because Hot is SOOOOOOOOO boring. They sound like a satellite station. Their dj's aren't too live, they play sweepers after every song, and they are so traditional. But, I am noticing something. They are doing something. They now don't play sweepers after every song and they have sweepers now that just simply say "Hot!" They are cutting back on a lot of things. Also, Channel 945 is starting to bash them now. They are starting to lean rhythmic like Channel. Coincidence?
______________

When you are 4 share behind, bashing won't get you much.
______________

Referencing the town, or the radio? Dayton itself is a hole, although some of the outlying areas are okay. As for the radio, you're better off getting an iPod or satellite.

Oh definitely the town. I can't stand that town. If I ever had to live there again, I'd probably shoot myself.

Dayton's radio stations aren't half bad. I'll even go as far as saying that Dayton has better radio stations than Columbus.
______________

Gentlemen, gentlemen, things could be worse ... you could all live in Toledo! I spent a decade there for four years in college.
Anyway, I'd have to agree with the above poster who says Dayton radio is better than Columbus. The music played, the formats, the signals — for the most part, all those things are better in Dayton than Columbus. Columbus radio has become so poor in recent months and years that it's just sad. Blame Clear Channel!!
And remember if you live in Dayton and don't like local choices, Cincinnati radio is just a good antenna away.

Smacks of desparation or sour grapes. Take your pick.

For a New Years Resolution, why don't one of you Dayton Radio fans start your own board? That way those who come here for Cincinnati Radio discussion don't have to look at posts about things we can't pick up most of the time and, in my case, don't really care to anyway. I'm not trying to be mean or funny, just honest. Please, someone look in to this with the administrator.

My personal reservations

Hot is starting to sound a bit lazy and bland kind of like Z93. Fry Guy's gotta go! My Is the whatever weekend only on Mix to appease those who can't listen to "Light" now that they are a Christmas station? I would look for those to go away in January. Sorry we don't have our own board to throw ideas around on!

Been looked into and complained about numerous times, and the answer has always been that Dayton stays. You're welcome to e-mail the admins, I'm sure.
______________

Re: Dayton Board

If you can convince Arbitron that Butler County belongs to the dayton Market, you have a deal. But in reality, (fanning the flames) Dayton Radio keeps Cincy honest. When you do back to back comparisons, Dayton wins. Just take the Mix stations, Cincy has sucked since day one. Also, why do you think WHKO, WTUE and WZLR show up with a share or more in the ratings in Cincinnati?

Let me have it.

FWIW... When this board first started on Radio-Info years ago, it was a Cincinnati/Dayton board.

I see no need to change that now, and the admins/mods here would more than likely agree. There's not enough Dayton "volume" talk to merit its own board.

This board

I think it makes perfect sense to combine the two markets on this one board, especially considering their close proximity to each other. It may be hard for those in Cincy's southern reaches to understand this, but there is quite a bit of signal overlap from Cincy's northern burbs up I-75 and into Dayton's southern burbs. I know plenty of people in fast-growing Butler and Warren Counties that listen to stations out of Dayton as much as they listen to the Cincy stations.

Not enough Dayton talk? Do you read this board much? That seems to be all most want to talk about. Case in point. I started what I thought would be a fun thread to do as the year comes to a close. It was about Cincinnati's Best AM Show, Best Midday, and so on. 2 responses!!(Which is just sad by the way) But some topic about a Dayton talk station gets 15 and counting responses. Also, on the post I started that hasn't gotten much response, I didn't list mine because I work on air full time and thought it would be a conflict for me to do so. I did look forward to reading others posts about who their favorites are though. I guess I shouldn't have even bothered. Why? Because it wasn't about......

Every day, almost. There will be a week when there's nothing happening around here. And then, *boom*. Case in point:

There's only one thread about Dayton on the first page of the board. On the second page there's three, if that.

I'm sorry your thread about talk radio didn't get the responses you were looking for. I don't listen to talk radio that much otherwise I would have contributed.

My thread was about Local shows. Not just talk. It's down a little ways and is titled "How about our own award show". I don't want to come off sounding bitter because I'm not. I love that I'm able to make a nice living doing what I always wanted to do. (I know a lot of people hate their jobs and I keep that in mind when something petty arises)
I know a lot of people like me, full time on air people. Whenever this board comes up now days the first thing out of their mouths is "I gave up looking at that board a long time ago. All they talk about on there is Dayton." I'm not kidding.
I look around at other boards sometimes and see spirited discussion that covers the whole market and I wish ours was like that a little bit more.
With that being said....I hope all you and yours have a very Merry Christmas!

But Salami,

Your post about the 96.5 firing got tons of responses.

There should be Dayton talk on this board because these two markets will eventually merge like DFW. And anybody who grew up in the area listened to Dayton radio, too. There was always talk about WTUE and Z-93 when I was growing up here. (Eaton/Dayton and Springfield alive!)

By the way, the awards pots was really hard to respond to. I really had to think about it and I was afraid my page was going to expire. It didn't get a lot of responses, but it got a lot of hits!
Edited by Oscar on 12/18/05 04:57 PM.

Sorry 'bout that. I got you confused with someone else here.

I haven't really listened to local radio much after I got the boot from 'OXY in May (with the exception of the past few days because I've been checking out WAQZ) - otherwise I definitely would have said something.

Sorry if I sounded snippy. Lack of sleep does that to me. And yes, Merry Christmas and all that jazz!
