Does anyone know what the future is of the Daytona Beach Country radio scene? K92 is the dominant country station. 93.1 KRO has a transmitter over 20 miles away from town and signal strength isn't that good, especially towards Ormand. It seems as though there would be room for a truly local challenger since 99.9 moved to Jacksonville 5 years ago. However, on the other hand, it seems that with the economy and its proximity to Orlando, and even Jacksonville, the Daytona market is being overshadowed.

Two words sum up the Daytona market: No money.

Anyone who has a real budget uses the Orlando stations. The local population skews very old and very low income. The market is still driven economically by tourists, be it race fans, bikers, or Black College Reunion. There's no real base for another local operation... why do you think Renda moved anyway?

94.5 used to the the #1 local station in the market, then the Roots upgraded it and sold it. Same reason, it didn't make much money as a Daytona station.

The only good thing to EVER come out of Daytona (actually Ormond Beach) was the Hot Rockin, Flame Throwin I-100. Granada Blvd. baby, good times with Marky Mark, Bobby Mitchell and Kid Carm......

Oh my.

Thanks for all of the replies. I had forgotten that WOGK could be heard in Daytona. There is a genuine interest in country music, just no strong, truly local radio station. It is a shame that Daytona has lost so many of it's stations. Vadar, I remember I-100 in the 80's-great station!

93.1 the Crow was a great Alt Rock station too. WNDB still hanging strong in DAB?

Two repeaters would be ideal for 93.1,have one signal to cover Daytona Beach proper and another signal to the North to cover Flagler and West into Barberville. When WGNE (98.1,Titusville) was 50,000 then 100,000 watts covering Daytona Beach K-92 was never even an issue.
