These stations haven't even come on the air and you're already criticizing them?

Eh, some criticism is legit.

Someone at CBS should be fired for not putting HFS back into DC on HD2.

And 24 hours of Elliot? *shudder*... and this is coming from someone who likes Elliot.

But it's all experimental at this point anyway since no one has the receivers, so there's no point in overanalyzing the format choices.

Yes. Yes I am. Stations lobbied the FCC years ago to control more channels with the promise that if they could, then they'd be able to provide TRUE variety.

WASH FM using HD to provide soft rock ballads? WIHT using HD to provide hits? WMZQ using HD to provide country?

Consider me less than impressed.

For real HD usage, check out Greater Media in Detroit.

Seeing that WJFK-FM is doing female talk (???) on HD, why doesn't HFS bring back a few of the talk shows that got bumped when they moved the music format over? Which leads me to wonder what kind of skirmishes will happen when HD becomes more widespread and hosts are arguing with each other over who's on the "real" channel and who had to get relegated to being cleared on a subchannel.
