DC Gets a New Talk Station?

Laura Ingraham's website says that her show will be returning to DC's airwaves on October 18th at 9 A.M. on AM 730. With Glenn Beck currently without a home in the market, and with the demise of WTNT, could Red Zebra be planning to build a brand new talk station on AM 730? Maybe they will seek to expand the station's signal as was planned in the past?

The only way for Red Zebra to get out of some of their old contracts may have been to completely blow up WTNT. Now, maybe they are creating a new talk station with different personalities as WTNT was obviously not doing well, besides for maybe Ingraham's show.

The mention of Laura returning to DC on WXTR AM 730 has been removed from her website. Could Red Zebra have been waiting until Monday to make the announcement of a new talk station?

Headline here at radio-info and also a bit at http://www.dcrtv.com says that the station
launched today as The Truth, WTNT 730 (call letters applied for; website not quite up yet).
America's Morning News, Ingraham, Doyle, Savage etc

>>Under a lease agreement that takes effect today, the new "The Truth" on 730 will pick up the largely Talk Radio Network righty talk programming

Metro Radio is leasing (and will eventually buy) the now-former WXTR/730 from Red Zebra, taking the WTNT call letters and talk format almost wholesale. After all, TRN programming had been the vast majority of WTNT's last few talk lineups to begin with. (I think some brokered shows will still continue to air on 570, including Ray Lucia and Frank Gaffney.) 570's call letters are now WSPZ.

As for Beck, he's now on WWRC/1260 from 9a-12p, starting today. Not a surprise, as Salem has recently cleared Glenn on their Chicago and Los Angeles conservatalkers.

And he's not helping either of the stations ratings ! ;D

Another right-wing nuts station. We have more than enough of them. Need to go back to the fairness doctrine at the F.C.C. This Country needs more balanced radio.

Not on your life! Let the marketplace decide what it wants and doesn't want to listen to! Granted, I'd like to see a host like Tom DeSabla back on the air, but I think that's unlikely. I also think there might need to be a rules change regarding how many stations a company can own in a given market. I also thing the purchase price of marginal AM stations is too damned much. I'd like to see smaller broadcasters get a hold of some of these operations.

All that said, face the fact that 'leftist' talk radio has been a flash-in-the-pan just about everywhere it's been tried. About the only service with any clout is NPR. Air America which was supposed to be the 'savior' of leftist talk failed after about four years on the air. The listenership wasn't there and you cannot force taste on the public.

At least the Red Zebra talk radio pair of "Obama 1260" and "McCain 570" was pretty interesting a couple of years ago...

Just what we were missing: Another thread based on the political leanings of those responding, and another anemic AM talk station in a market that has pretty much moved almost entirely to FM. :D
