DC shake-up at high noon??

All Access is reporing that Z 104 is dying at Noon and that WGMS is changing to the 103.9/104.1 frequencies. WTOP-FM gets the big move to 103.5fm while I do not know what will happen at 107.7fm or any of the simlucasters of WTOP.

Classical lives in DC for now but these crappy signals will not help WGMS
Edited by RickRose on 01/04/06 04:42 PM.

According to All Access: WGMS moving to 103.9/104.1, WTOP gets a 4th freq. at 103.5 ...Until the end of March, when "Washington Post Radio" debuts on 107.7/1500.
______________
When you tune in to the one or two AM/FM stations in your area that actually play something you like, and they're talking or playing commercials ...you're "paying for radio".

Edited by DStroyerNEPA on 01/04/06 05:07 PM.

I'm cursing myself for not bringing a radio to work today. This is huge!

I expected Z104 to be killed off sooner or later, but not this! I'm glad that WTOP finally gets a full market signal, but I'm disappointed in the loss of a music station, and a bit skeptical of the new format for 1500/107.7. It seems like the new Washington Post radio will cannabilize WTOP's ratings if it does well.

The Post has something on their new station here:

Anyone know what will be done with 820? It hasn't been mentioned anywhere.

A PR Newswire release says 820 will remain WTOP along with 103.5

Why 820 Not Mentioned

They're likely deemphasizing 820 in the news, because they want to brand WTOP's new 103.5 frequency. 820 will still be there, they just won't talk about it much after March.

The only shake-up I heard about was Clear Channel kicking Ken Boesen to the curb at WPOC. The rumor (before the sale of CC) was that he and another big shot from that market will remain at CC in another capacity, but it doesn't look like it now. (I'm sure it has nothing to do with an on-air shift... that's for voice-trackers now anyway).

Rumor has it that Washington Redskins' owner Dan Snyder is interested in purchasing Washington's Good Music Station from Bonneville. Ironically, WGMS was one of the top classical stations in the country before being sent up the dial. Now there's a chance it may be snuffed out altogether. Doesn't anyone listen to classical music anymore?
