I have noticed recently that WHVW often has nothing but a dead carrier. They were silent around 2 this afternoon, and are still silent as of 9p.

I have noticed LONG periods of silence other days, too.

Poor JP...Is it almost over...I hope not, he is a good guy..
 
I noticed WHVW transmitting a carrier only yesterday also. I checked 950 AM out this morning around 8:30. At first, there was the same dead carrier but after a few seconds, a song popped on. Maybe they are having STL issues. I doubt JP puts much into mantaince unless something breaks completely.
 
STL problems should be no excuse...Why not go to the xmtr site and connect an IPOD, CD player, PC, or similar to the xmtr so they can get SOMETHING on the air. It would be better than "The Sounds Of Silence" marathon. (Running a dead carrier without an ID is against FCC rules...)

This is true. If they cannot get a program on the air, they are supposed to shut the transmitter off. As far as going to the TX site I am still confused. I regularly drive past the old broadcast house where the transmitter/ tower are located. At one point, the building was converted to house a deli. Several years ago, the building was heavily damaged by fire. In the front, at least it remains boarded up. I believe the transmitter was in the rear

I thought about that but the NO Trespassing sign deterred me. Was the transmitter always in a trailer, not in the big house?
 
The transmitters were originally in the house. In the late 90's, they were evicted from the house. The transmitter was moved temorarily to the studio downtown, with a long wire antenna on the roof. A few months later, they put the trailer next to the tower, hooked it all up, and the rest is radio history!
 
The morning show host has been missing in action for a couple of weeks now. ("Murray the Machine" has been filling in for her.) So I went to check the station's Program Schedule on its website to see if a permanent change has been made and their domains, both WHVW.com and WHVW.net, had expired. My guess would be for non-payment.
 
Bucky, how can you say that JP is a good guy?? he stuck it to you like he did to everyone else, including good folks that were trying to help him stay afloat with a good radio program. He systematically isolated himself from lots of influential business persons. The automation uses 386 processors. His 100 disc cd players screw up occasionally. All things come to an end.

15 minutes?!! I tried, but I could only endure about 5! Talk about bad amateur radio wow! Who is she JP's mother?
