Dead Air Darryl

"Schultz says Clear Channel AM operations director Darryl Parks responded to his earlier comments via E-Mail, denying the complaints alleged by listeners." per Ohio Media Watch.

I wonder what he denied? We've all heard all the screw-ups. Did he say we were making all these incidents up?

I don't think Darryl has any valid way to deny the (hopefuly former) technical mess of the station.
I have always enjoyed CBS News at the top of each hour on 55 'KRC and followed the switch to 1360.
For several days/weeks, CBS News on 1360 had the legal ID voice over the first 10-15 seconds, or worse, another program at the same time.
My view is CC only cares about the stations achieving solid ratings and revenue - give this AM signal to someone who gives a damn and can effectively serve the community.
BTW: So frustrated, had to go online and listen to the original source on WCBS 880.

The line you posted above was just a rephrase of what "Big Ed" said on the air that afternoon.

The gut feeling I get was that the denial was aimed at those who believed the station constantly had problems with the automation or dead air, or that it was any more frequent or significant than an occasional glitch. But I didn't see the E-Mail Ed got from Mr. Parks, so I don't know what context was there. This is just a guess on my part.

I'm SURE Mr. Parks denied allegations that there was some sort of effort to weaken the liberal talk format by this. Maybe that's what Mr. Schultz was talking about.

I did get my own response, and posted it. Oh, and I grabbed an audio clip of Ed's original rant - the one that WLW cut up and poked fun of during the Bill Cunningham show. I'll be putting up the complete transcript later today.

Well, regardless of what happens, I'm glad the fiasco has finally been made public. There are many pissed off listeners who weren't being heard and their complaints to Darryl were ignored.

I just hope they fix the problem.....this year.

I doubt a station with a .9 share would have "many listener" complaints..maybe many liberal activist complaints but not listeners.

As Mother Carlson once told Andy Travis, "Carlson Conglomerate (OMG...CC!) must always offset its profits. Thus WKRP...."

As Helen Mays once told Darryl Parks, "Clear Channel must always offset its profits. Thus WSAI...."
