Dead air on 102.5 WWCD

102.5 has been off the air for about the past 40 minutes (since 3:50 PM Friday) and continues to have dead air.

It looks like they are still having issues with their tower.

Would be issues with their STL (studio to transmitter link) not tower if your hearing just dead air.

102.5 was off the air from about 3:50 PM to 5:30 PM on Friday. That's about the worst possible time to not be on the airwaves.

I'm curious to know what the other 102.5 was that was coming in with Nicki Minaj. WIOG from Bay City, MI perhaps? They're the only other 102.5 I can think of with that format anywhere around.

I didn't stick with it long enough to find out. It was clear when I was stopped at a red light but after pulling forward a few feet it went in and out again.

There's a Hot 102 in Lexington, KY, but doubt you would get that one.

Yes.com shows that Nicki Minaj's Starships played at 517 PM on WIOG Bay City which is when I was listening. They have an 86,000 watt signal. Like I said, it wasn't clear reception but when stopped at a light it was clear while I was sitting in that spot on Riverside Drive in Dublin.

With crazy atmospheric effects this time of the year.. It's possible that if 102.5's signal was dark you briefly heard a distant far far off station..

For instance this morning at 6am, 96.7 WKOV Wellston/Jackson was coming in like a local [clear, no drift, no static] in NE Columbus.

It is the time of year for stations to randomly come in. About 2 years ago I was at work and between 7-11 AM, I was getting 104.1 WPAY at work which is in between Marysville and Bellefontaine. I work in a giant metal building, where most Columbus stations struggle to get in. 104.1 was loud and clear. It showed up with stereo signal at 104.0 and 104.2, and even killed 103.9 and 104.3 which broadcasts about 8 miles away. It only lasted a few hours, but was pretty neat. 100,000 watts can go a long way if the weather is right. This happened about 3 days in a row. The one day I picked it up until about 1 PM and then lost it to 104.3 over-powering it.

I recollect back 10 years of so ago, SUNNY 95 was off the air for a few hours in the afternoon, and I was able to pick up Q95 WFBQ out of Indianapolis at Tuttle and 270 in Dublin.

Not entirely Columbus related, but about 5-6 years ago on a bitterly cold Colorado night, I went for a walk near my house in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch. I took my little Sony walkman radio instead of my iPod to listen to Matt Drudge at the time on Sunday night. I had just put batteries in the radio so it defaulted to 550 AM unbeknown to me, and low and behold I was listening to Drudge loud and clear; thinking I was listening to KOA out of Denver until the first commercial break; when in fact I was picking up KFYI's 1000 watt signal out of Phoenix, 800 miles and change away. Amazing.
