DEAD AIR ON 1180

1180 AM transmitted a dead carrier all day on Sunday. It finally came back to life late Sunday afternoon. Lots Spots and money lost. Wonder if heads are gonna roll over this. Wonder what happened.

Not surprising for KGOL at all. This is the same station that decided since Biz Radio went back to 1110 and Hum Tum City had already found 1230 for a new home, they'd just shut the thing off altogether until someone purchased the time. For obvious reasons, that didn't last long as within a week the station was airing the spot telling Hum Tum City listeners to go to 1230 KQUE. That lasted awhile, at least 3 weeks.

This is Entravision's only station in Houston, and why they hold onto it is beyond me. They must get really big rent off of the station, as it has been a dog for many a year. I suspect the nighttime signal is what holds them back from the station every being a true player in the market. Can't even get KGOL's signal at Deerbrook Mall last time I checked it at night, in Humble.

I can hardly hear it at night at my QTH near Richmond and Voss.
Has it always been like that. Can't they do anything to fix that?
It looks as if they are protecting a lot of stations.

It used to be worse than that, if you can imagine, with just 1,000 watts and a nasty null toward your location. For the most part the increase to 3,000 did little to improve the coverage area.

No, not really, and they do protect stations from Rochester NY to Mexico. Add in the horrible ground conductivity at the transmitter site and there's no way they'll ever have a decent nighttime signal from there.
