Dead air on C89.5

Found C89.5 with dead air this morning. Don't usually listen in the AM but the car radio was on it when parked last night. Full strength with RDS info showing, just silence. Aren't stations required to have some sort of fail safe to shut the transmitter down when there is no remote control or the STL of whatever sort it is detects silence for a certain period? Not that the FCC gives a shit about anything anymore but this seems like a violation.

Guys, It's that trendy new sound that's all the rage with kids these days. Haven't you heard?

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

This is nothing new for many years for both high school and college operated stations during times when school was closed due to weather conditions, and the automation simply stopped (or lost it's power source) with no one in the building to restart it. Back when their respective colleges operated the frequencies, 90.9 (KVTI I-91, Clover Park) and 91.7 (KBTC, Bates) would have dead air times occur during unexpected school closures. Same goes most likely for KGRG, KGHP, and KMIH.

They are back playing music. So much for that silence format, didn't even give it much time.

And that's why these new formats never take off. They never get enough time to grow. Yes, it's a different sound. But you can mix it up with say, oh, Wind Chimes? Bird Chirps, Light Rain, Leaves in the Breeze and other really raw acoustic jams.

Patience.....
