Dead Tucson Board?

Why is it that the Tucson radio board never has any new postings? Is Tucson radio really that boring? There HAS to be SOMETHING going on.

Thanks Northwest Bobby! You just answered my question. It took someone that's not even in the Tucson market anymore to respond to the sleepy Tucson radio board.

Hope the good folks at Cloud 95 have some fly traps set up.

I don't know what's worse... Hearing endless babble about how Free FM sucks in PHX or hearing a pin drop in the Tucson room.

As long as we're on Cloud 95 (Cloud 94.9 for those of you
who are digitally inclined)...

IIRC, last Friday Brad had to do the Brain File without Bobby
because Bobby was off. It's just not the same. ;)

Is Ollllld Dan'l Gates still doing AMD on KGVY 1080?

Anything new on past rumors of a "for sale" sign at the
Giant 580?

Hmmm, maybe there is nothing going on.

Yup, just as I was saying. There really is nothing going on.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I still miss and almost long for the days when there were up to four country stations (maybe five?) springing up in a weeks time and every other radio group in town had talks about changing formats. Ahhhh, those were the days...

Yea, years ago a jammed cart deck at KTUC would have been big news....panic city!

No (bleep)! If one of the two Spotmasters went south--real trouble.
Especially if they didn't get Julius Mendel's spot on. (He was the
Dancin' Danny Babich of the 1970s in Tucson radio).

Closed circuit to zumahans and radioguy58...I'm sure you have many
KTUC remembrances to regale us with here on the Tucson Tanim Board.

Hmmm--- Set your Wayback Machines to 1971...

KTUC is granted a power increase to 1kw day/250w Night...

New Harris(Gates) Transmitter arrives and is installed on it's wooden shipping pallet to keep the thing off the floor. Why? Because the roof leaked, and a large puddle would form after a it rained! Sure made things interesting when it came time for power changes! (just where did I put That Jesus Stick?) AAHHH Memories...

Anyone else care to jump in?

New? Not "pre-owned"? Ya think (GM Tom) Maples was hoping Kay-Tuck
wouldn't get the daytime power bump so he wouldn't have to spend $$$$
for replacement gear? Were they still using the big ol' RCA 250-watter that
must have come with the original KCNA plant there in 1947? (The one in
the pic within Russ Jackson's story on oldradio.com.)

And did they ever upgrade from those two ancient Spotmasters?

Yeah, I remember you trying to reset the Harris (with a broomstick) during a thunderstorm and a GIANT BLUE FREAKING FLASH that scared the bejeeezus out of me and had you coming up looking like you had met all 12 apostles.

Water was a quarter inch deep and I will never forget the look in your eyes. I swear your eyebrows were smoking.

August 1980.

Yeah, as I recall Tom got some additional ancient Spotmasters when KONG-Visalia was sold. Believe they were used for parts, as the capstans had only 100,000 miles on them.

I'll never forget the day I took proud delivery of 25 brand new carts for use FOR NEWS ONLY (this was Maples' concession to me when KNST was a comin'). I ordered them with 25 seconds of tape, so the sales guys would keep their mitts off them.

Didn't work. Next Monday the "Dick Cornell the Gas Man" spot, voiced by Tom, was on one of MY news carts, clocking in at exactly 26 seconds TRT.

How about we get back to the original thread...

the Tucson board got boring quite awhile ago. Then all the changes with Radio-Info, the advent of RadioInsight (which has NOBODY ON IT!) and everything that WAS just ain't no more.

It is SAD. because there was a time just a year or two ago that Radio-Info's Tucson board was totally worthwhile reading and contributing to on a daily basis. What happened to all those people who kept feeding the beast?
