Was that Chuck Barris game show hosted by Geoff Edwards? If so there are some similarities.

Yes it was. Personally, DOND is the same show as Trasure Hunt, but instead of "klunks", you pick cases.

Picky point: Jan Murray produced and emceed "Treasure Hunt"
in the '50s, on ABC (1956-57) and NBC (1957-59). In the
early '70s he sold the rights to Chuck Barris, who produced
the version Geoff Edwards hosted. I don't know if the original
show called the booby prizes "klunks," but they were there.
And you can get "klunked" in a manner of speaking, on DOND,
if you end up with a case containing one of the smaller amounts.

I was quite young at the time, but I remember sometime around 1973 Geoff Edwards hosting a show called "Jackpot". Was this the game show you're referring to?

That was a riddle-based show. Treasure Hunt involved picking a package off the stage and deciding whether to take a one-time cash offer instead of the box's contents or gamble for what was in the box.

Both had a bit of the "bird in the hand" element, but Deal plays more on people's ability to know the the changing odds--and their willingness to ignore those odds anyway.
