Dean & Rog Sad choice of a bit !!

Monday 1/5/09 during a news segment and the sad story about John Travolta's son the guys injected to have some fun with the story. They slammed his religon of Scientology and went on to say his sons death was not special because people die everyday. There is no bit to play on the death of a child they should have left it alone. I do not believe the comments were taken out of context. You really can't mess with the story.

I do not know if they had any complaints or calls on this behavior, but it was disgusting.

I don't know how the HECK ANYBODY could even THINK ABOUT doing a bit about this - it is about as LOW and CRASS and LACKING IN CLASS as one could go in radio....

Tacky, yes. Classless, absolutely. But it got the result that they were most certainly looking for. Someone is actually talking about the Dean & Rog Morning Show, and that hasn't been the case in a long time. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Having a 20-year old CSB-school "graduate" as a "producer" doesn't help either.

...but I'm no one to judge.

My heart to the Travoltas. :-[

not at all, my dear, not at all... :) i'm simply stating my feelings about the whole issue - i mean, come on, you seem like a reasonable individual - HOW THE HECK could anybody do a bit on something like that??

as for my own radio habits, though not relevant to this post -- let's just say i keep it clean, i keep it real, and i like ANYTHING BEFORE like 1980's... :)

first of all, you sound reasonable... :)
secondly, as for all the guys you mentioned, i won't listen to them - they are NAS-TY!! that's what i mean about keeping it clean... :)

MorningTFX, I take it you didn't get the job? What a nice way to work that in on a subject that has nothing to do with their producer. Dean & Rog are big boys, I doubt ANY producer would make them say anything or deliver any story on the air that they didn't want to do. It wasn't a bit, it was a news story. Secondly, if you step back, they're right to a certain degree. People die every day and no one cares except their immediate family. Does this deserve the CNN coverage it's getting? I don't think so. We have soldiers out there that die and nobody talks about them. Why does John Travolta's son get more coverage than they do? I'm not saying that the story isn't sad, but put some perspective on it. It's not like they made a parody song about it.

I'm no Dean & Rog fan, but the story is STILL being played out, even though the poor kid has been dead for a week.

I think their point was that, while noteworthy, the on-going coverage of Jett Travolta's death is out of whack with what else is happening in the world today. My guess is you'll see John Travolta on Larry King or Baba Wawa within two months.

The story was that kind of story that you just do not make a bit of iy. The slamming of the family religon and the kids condition was just not funny.

I dont think any producer has control of the talent. Most end up at some mall working part time. They make little here.

d&r's producer has anything to do with content? yer kiddin', right?

I'm with ya, tooner. Quick, somebody call Chris Zaharis back and tell him the company is no longer blaming producers for bad morning show bits. :'(

Dean and Rog are probably better than most of Houston radio these days. You people would go nuts if Howard Stern or Don Imus were on the radio in Houston. Dean and Rog are tame by comparison.

I have listened to Howard Stern. Dean & Rog could never be compared.

Howard develops new bits for his show along with his staff.

Dean & Rog have had no development for new bits that I can tell.

Howard is a Shock Jock period The End!

Dean & Rog are two guys with a producer.

I know what Hoard Stern is.

I know what Dean & Rog are.

No. I would not complain if Howard said these things because we expect that from him.

Not Dean & Rog!

Maybe this is a part of a new bit development strategy?
