Dean&Rog+Suzie ‘n Crew Gone Forever????

I am not a radio pro so hope it is alright if I post an opinion here? Thanks…I knew it would be.

I am a little depressed and certainly disgusted w/ ClearChannel. There were a bunch of us that depended on D&R+Suzie ‘n crew to get us through difficult times every morning. I have nothing against SteveFixx at all….but man! The wheels have really come off over there have they not? What is the deal? I guess as they say, “Money talks and BS walks!” I am sure the CC suits think that radio audiences have short memories. I wish Kevin Dorsey was still around to give us a good editorial. He’d rip ‘em a good one!

Sudden change like this is not good for us old people. I am an old Houston Radio listener. I go back to just before the 610 KILT days and listened on a large tube radio. Was very surprised one X-mas with a transistor radio….but I digress.

I have a need to try to communicate with the old crew and tell them we miss them. I wish I had some venue to watch to know what they are doing or that they may comment. I am sure they probably won’t as ranting on some on-line forum would not be good for their resume, but sure wish it anyway. If anyone here could clue us in I would certainly appreciate it. And until they surface what is the best morning drive show in Houston?

First let me say thank you for listening to radio. Your ears and millions of others is what drives this business. Without you, who would hear our rants, our jokes, or purchase the products we advertise? Keep listening to radio; it's what makes our world spin.

I too don't work for a station, but did a long, long time ago. I also don't know the ins-and-outs of the D&R deal. But I'm fairly certain that Fixx didn't all of a sudden think, "you know what, today's the day I let D&R go!" As jock-lite as KKRW is today, trust me, the hardest working man over there is Fixx. And if you've ever tried to run a station w/o jocks, its like trying to save a sinking ship with a spoon for a bucket.

You have to understand that's there's agents and millions of $$, both in salaries and ad dollars, at risk here to both CC and Cox. Most likely D&R's contract was up and getting renegotiated and, like all teams who's contracts are up, they threw a line out to see who would bite. Well, Cox bit. Those details will most likely never see teh light of day, but I assure you that decisions like these are not made lightly.

Come June they'll be on KHIT, Suzzie too probably, airing crank calls and playing bit songs. As for the KKRW, that chapter is closed and they'll find another morning show. It's been rumored that W&J could move from 950, or it could run a national show like Bob & Tom for example. Either way it's what the business is. People move on. People move in.

As to what to listen to now. Well, we leave that to you - a loyal listener. Whoever you listen to, all we ask is that you listen.

Just as a listener, I second everything you said. Steve Fixx certainly has earned my respect for keeping The Arrow going.
A few observations:
- Bob and Tom works in the Midwest, but I think it would flop miserably here. A city this size needs local morning shows, not two guys out of Indy who refuse to mention that's where they're based simply for the sake of homogenization.
That said, please DO NOT put Walton and Johnson on the Arrow. I may be in the minority here but I think they're horrid. There has to be a good morning show in a mid-major market that's ready to take the step into a city like this.
