Dean & Roj a Bust? A bigger mistake than the Sam Malone contract at Mix

Just got off the phone with a friend at Cox. The millions they are paying the morning show aren't paying off, not one bit. Walton and Johnson are KILLING them. hahahaahahahahaahahaahahahaahaahaha.

Everyone here who poo-pooed the Gawds should now have a big crow buffet and eat up. But I know you won't.

The biggest scam D&R ever pulled off was getting Cox to pay them millions. Rumors abound at cheap channel that they pooped their pants when D&R left, now they are popping the cork on champagne. Why does everyone doubt W&J? Results, for almost 30 years. that's all.

Other rumors of blowouts at Cox and cheap channel. Check out who is having lunch with who, and you will see where the wind is about to blow. Check out who Laura Morris has been seen having lunch with, and you'll be on to something in the offing by summer's end.

Btw, congrats to Brindis, back on top! Nobody gives him credit, but he is back, in full force, and everybody else is eating his dust. I know most of you hate Spanish radio and won't give it it's due, but the ratings don't lie. KLOL was a momentary pretender, but those white boys are back where they belong. Running radio, anyone? Stick with what you know, or hire some Latinos to run the place, for the sake of anything decent. Respect the medium, and the language, or else continue losing because listeners are smarter than you realize.

If anyone locates Sam Malone, lemme know. See ya. For now.
 
I just saw the post about W&J about to go away on arrow, so I called a friend in that building with access to the real story. Rest assured, that was written by the little dude who works for Cox who flies around the country writing the slogans of "i know our ratings suck, but we play fewer commercials than the station with the big ratings". He has a habit of doing that whereever he goes, according to someone who knows (and doesn't care for) him.

By the way, "Dean & Roj mornings, then 52 minutes of worn out songs from the Carter Administration" doesn't seem to be faring too well. Ask anyone at Cox how disappointed they are. They bet the bank on a show that has never been number one for a station that isn't top 5, and they've only gone down from there.

Somebody should join the unemployment line, but I know that isn't how it works. Only working people get fired for failures, the guys at the top get golden parachutes, then cycle through jobs with other companies.

Sad.
 
Millions? Your credible source said D&R are being paid millions?
 
We'll just have to figure out if hadenough is Walton or Johnson. My bet he is a Johnson, if you know what I mean. ;)
 
An absolutely funny series of posts to read. As absurd as it's funny. In less than 30 days you're declaring Dean & Rog a bust. Good God, no one will ever take your posts seriously. But your posts are a hoot.
 
Am I missing something? We haven't even gone through a month yet or a full ratings period. Give peace a chance.
 
I don't know if they're a bust or not...but for me, and imo, they're npt that funny and entertaining. I keep listening as I enjoy classic rock, and while the playlist is limited, at least I get to have my fix during my 30 minute commute in the mornings.

With this said, as for if they're funny and/or entertaining, some of their bits are a throw back to Rick Dee's in the 80's (before he was syndicated) when he was only doing L.A. Radio...While D&R are doing birthday scams, RD used to do all sorts of telephone bits/scams - nothing new here.

Also, I heard this morning that they'll be doing a show with Suzy getting intoxicated this coming Thursday morning...Sorry to say that it's already been done - I did that myself in 2003 in Northeastern Wisconsin - I have the photo's and recording of the show. I did it along with my partner as a PSA, if you will, the Friday before St. Patrick's day, in order to show people that you can be intoxicated and not realize it. I had a sergeant from the sheriff's department in studio for the entire show, with me blowing into a breathalizer every 15 minutes. So, while it may not have been done here in the Houston area, it had been done - and more than likely even before I did it 6 years ago.

I don't see a lot of originality from D&R - hopefully this will change, but since 6/1 I am not impressed.

Also, as a side note, I tend to remember reading earlier this year that their contracts were in the 6-figure area - not the 7-figure numbers that have been thrown around on this board.
 
Hardly a bust. I think the format is not really good and just as repetitive as KKRW is. But DEAN & ROG have a loyal following. I am sure they will be fine when their numbers come out, but you really can't make an assessment like this until after a few ratings periods. And anyone who works for Cox, or who has worked for Cox knows they write no checks with seven figures on them. They're about as cheap as they come. That's why I am surprised they went this route in the first place.

I used to work with a pair of guys who, later on, went on to have a feature where they intoxicated a young lady every Friday. It got old.
 
Oh but nobody will ever do the "intoxication" bit as well as they did on WKRP when Venus got drunk and Johnny became more and more sober.

I did try to tune into Dean and Rog this morning. All I got was Dean and some static.

No trade publishes weekly PPM numbers. If you have access and can post rankings, in demo, for Dean & Rog and Walton & Johnson, do it. Radio-Info will allow posting of rank by demo and daypart. Remember though there will be verification. So if it's true, put it up here.

Cox isn't about to terminate Dean & Rog after 30 days, even if...and that's IF their numbers are less than expected. Cox has spent a lot of time and effort on the KKBQ morning show over a few years, even though their culture is not to build morning shows. They are sticking with Steve & Vikkie on WSB-FM/Atlanta despite that program not living up to their expectations and costing huge dollars.

Haters and baiters won't see Cox dump D&R anytime soon. Fortunately, neither will their fans. When the monthly is published, someone will post the morning rankers for everyone to see how Dean & Rog, and Walton & Johnson are doing.
