Dear Dr. Laura,

You are going to use some bitter wanna be radio host's post as your proof? This is an attempt to get a show canceled so his show will replace it...well, get it line. I am sure there are 1000 other syndicated hosts that the station could grab if they wanted to replace Dr. Laura.

Dr. Laura is not practicing by the way. No one pays her an hourly fee to come sit in an office and get therapy. SHE IS A RADIO HOST. If she didn't have a degree that lets her call herself a doctor and she was calling herself a doctor, she'd have problems.

Which “bitter wanna be radio host” to you refer to? If it's Barbara De Angelis your description is incorrect. Barbara De Angelis was a successful radio host who got stabbed in the back. She was the total opposite of Laura PHD. Laura was also instrumental in getting her successor Marilyn Kagen off of KFI. Kagen by the way was a truly nice person who tried to help callers. She was a licensed psychotherapist too.

You must have seen "Straight Talk" starring Dolly Parton and James Woods.

Laura Schlessinger can call herself anything except a caring, decent and honest person. Her personal life has been pretty much of a train wreck. She is overbearing and downright mean spirited to the callers and she is not entertaining, to me and neither is Dr. Phil. However in this land of free speech and free choice she has as much right as anyone else to do what she does.

People wanted to get Howard Stern off the air for poor taste, in their opinion. They did succeed in removing Imus, for a time, because of making an insensitive remark with racial overtones. But Imus is not giving advice to people, he is entertainment just like Stern, and unlike Dr. Laura they mostly are entertaining.

In the end I think all most people would like is the removal (suspension) of Dr. Laura for a time and perhaps mandatory sensitivity training to boot. Given the Imus incident I think it only fair.

This should not be compared to IMUS or to KRAMER for that matter. Both were mean spirited against people in particular. Dr. Laura was making a point in using the word, not calling someone names. Also, sticks and stones.......

I agree with this, and I should also let it be known that I'm African American myself (the links are conveniently down below if you want to check before you make assumptions or start pulling the race card because you may not like what I'm about to say..). I'm just sick of how everything these days is turned in to a big deal and people are quick to get mad at or blame others who are doing the EXACT SAME THINGS as everyone else. What we need in 2010 is more people using common sense and thinking. My motto is anyone who uses the word but gets mad at anyone else for using it is stupid. It's as simple as that. I don't know much about Dr Laura on a personal level, but regarding this issue, it should not be turned in to a bigger issue than it really is, ESPECIALLY when the same type of racism is going on in the opposite direction all the time and no one is supposed to talk about it. Yes, as you probably guessed, I'm one of those "think and use common sense" people that tells it like it is whether people like to know the truth or not. If we truly want racism to stop, then it needs to be stopped in BOTH DIRECTIONS, and holding grudges and trying to get back at people today for events of last century by criticizing every little thing that happens is not going to cut it. It's time to move on. Notice how if you're in one racial group and you say something, the consequences would be much more drastic than if it were the reverse then stop and ask yourself "does this make sense?" I hear the C word all the time and NO ONE says anything...

However, I doubt Laura's a racist and I'd personally give her a pass for this one. She was trying to make a point in her typical fashion. I don't think it's the same thing as Imus or "Kramer" (i.e.: Michael Richards).

She's not terribly enlightened on racial issues--specifically involving interracial relationships. Remember, the Black caller's original complaint was about her White husband/boyfriend's pals making racially based jokes, and Schlessinger's 'insight' concluded the woman wasn't well suited for dating outside her own kind in the first place. As if stupid and offensive race jokes are the norm amongst most White people when dating them.

Schlessinger has her own way of keeping the bar low, don't you think?

Venustraphobia is fear or hatred of women. Venustraphobe comes
to mind as I read this hate filled thread.

Amazing, the ones who should have been offended the most, are
the 2 who made some sense.

Will the real hateful people now please stand up. You pretend
to be progressive white men. But, you are full of much more
hatred than those you accuse of being haters.

How about "slacker?"

Not only did kindly old Doc Schlessinger use the "n" word indiscriminately (no pun intended), she also told the black female caller that if she's going to enter a mixed marriage, she needs to have a sense of humor. In other words, just laugh it off when people use racial epithets, and it serves you right for marrying a white guy. Yeah, right: that's not racist. Much.

Slacker is not really the same... a slacker is pretending to comply a little bit, and puts up just enough effort to keep from being an obvious
dead weight in the world. Mrs Katz next door in Gary was a wonderful old lady who must have been 60 about then, and I learned a lot from her when I was a 4 years old in '65.
As she put it, that word was only for the very strongest cases of indolence.

Careful there with that broad brush.

I am not a fan of Dr Laura. And, I am shocked by her use of that
word on the air. However, many on this thread and in the media
are intentionally misinterpreting the points she was making.

Gynophobia also comes to mind. End the prejudice now!

Or perhaps this is not gender related at all, and simply a case of a broadcaster approaching the end of a very successful career who made a horrendous (and racially insensitive) mistake on the air, then compounding it by responding poorly, and finally erroneously turning it in to a "First Amendment" issue when nothing could be further from the truth.

The rest of the world including The Republic of Iran has had women
news anchors decades ahead of us. Women have ruled many other
nations but our fair land is afraid to run a woman for president on
the ballet of a major party.

We have progressed very little. The haters now pretend to be progressive liberals. But, it's still the same. A few silver spooned
white boys with very loud prejudiced mouths. Gynophobe is the
word for the American broadcast media.

Bill Cosby has tried to address what the media has done to set back
civil rights. But, the only place you will find Cosby's comments is
the internet because the broadcast media won't let his cause be heard.

What a bunch of Gynophobes!!!!!!!!!!!

.

Dear Dr Laura,
Damn it! Get up! You have to fight. Invite Jesse Jackson and
Bill Cosby to speak before you sign off. These silenced civil rights
leaders can better explain the issues, you have raised.

Just look at the degrading roles African Americans are portrayed
as in American pop music and movies.

Just look at the degrading roles female co-hosts get in morning
radio shows all across America.

Don't let the very loud gynophobes shut you up.

Love her or hate her, the woman has balls, knows how to market herself and has amassed a fortune talking to whining dolts on the phone.

That may have been a problem in itself... :D but since she's taking her ball and going home, I'll bet she doesn't have any now.
