Dear Mr. Hank Stolz

Dear Hank-

Based on today’s radio show I know you read this forum. You made many jokes about all the conspiracy theory’s about you.

I first want to tell you that I have a great deal of respect for you. Your radio shoe on WTAG was great for many years. Your move to WCRN was very exciting for a lot of people…. But as I am sure you know or ever feel yourself it has turned into a rather large disappointment. The constant schedule changes leave many of your fans not knowing what time slot you will be on from week to week.

I feel you were at your best when you first jumped over, you did the one hour split show with Peter the a few hours on your own. It gave the station a much greater “local” feel.

Now that WCRN has pretty much abandoned the “live and local” branding you have really taken a backseat on the station. I feel the ratings will never get above a 1.

A few unsolicited ideas for you and your station

Get rid of Peter and host the morning show. You were made for hosting AM drive.

If you can not get rid of Peter PLEASE make him SHUT UP. His constant talking over callers and his guests really is annoying. Upton must get very ticked off when he calls in and all Peter does is talk over him. It is obvious to anyone who tunes in that Peter does not listen to his callers or guests. The caller will tell a story then Peter jumps in and talks about something else. This is bad radio.

For the love of God get rid of the Drew Show. I know that is the stations Bread and Butter but no one listens! As soon as he comes on the air people jump to TAG his infomercial is nothing but an ego trip for someone that likes to here his own voice. He talks about the same crap every day! I know you need him to keep the lights on but please, cant you move him to having a Saturday and Sunday show and throw in a few Drew tip of the day 2 minute segments a few times a day?

And my last bit of unsolicited advise…. Get someone who can update your web site on a regular basis. Phone numbers are incorrect, the show page has not been updated in some time and your weekend line up is crap… you advertise “infomercial” who does that? Don’t list “currently open” list something like “rotating hosts” or something like that.

You’re a good guy with a great show, I just wish CRN would give you more then 1 hour at 5am and 1 hour at 11.

Thank you
A Fan

I don't think Hank has any power to change things--I think it's all done the Carberry way, and they don't seem to know what to do with the station. In my experience, they would rather (or need to?) run whatever they can to to bring in money for the time (even if it's stupid infomercials.) I know they have dumped at least two live and local shows on the weekend in favor of pay-for-play. Decent hosts who aren't sales people were forced to try to play the sales game with no help and no website presence for potential advertisers to vet them (no evidence that they were even on!)

For all their 50,000 watts of potential, they are running it like a bad 5,000 watter. Blute seems to be their "marquee" show and we know how he's doing....

I say, Hank, good luck. Get whatever you can out of WCRN and don't expect anything back.

Hi Magpie - You must not be listening to CRN during the week. They have added Barry Armstrong's Money Matters to their morning lineup which is local and live. Both he and his cohost Scotty Mccall seem to really be taking on steam. Before they started there in early January we wondered whether Armstrong could actually save CRN. While that question still remains unanswered, he and Mccall, as far as I'm concerned, are doing a superb job.......not sure we should write Carberry off just yet!

Money matters is not to bad... BUT it is a paid program.
get a grip radioman - there all paid programming aren't they? The issue is whether we can once again find great talent to provide listeners with great radio!

It's all about the Benjamins....

Hey radioman,
boy are you right about Upton. He has been complaining about being cut off by Peter for months...to the point he wants his own show but the Carberry's would rather sell airtime than pay him more than he is already getting.

Another thing: about 90 percent of our weekend programming is paid (restaurant show, financial shows, even sports ... how do you think we stay in business?) Our sales people cant sell spots any more due to lack of ratings so they sell guest appearances on Peter and Hank's shows or hour long shows to people on the weekend. want to be a guest? shell out afew hundred bucks... And come on with Peter... he will ask you a question and cut you off before you can answer... what a bargain!

Say what you will about WCRN but they seem to be more cutting edge with Blute and Carr
and on top of the coming Mass disaster than the other stations. Also they appear to have more ads than the other station. If they run the station like a business it means they may stick around unlike hundreds of stations going out of business around the country, By the way if Blute didn't cut off Upton he would keep going non-stop mostly about himself. If Stoltz is backstabbing his own CRN team it is ugly and unprofessional and says more about him than anyone else.
