Dear Mr. Sales Manager..

I saw the trends on your station and could send you a resume soon. There appears to be many avails on your air and even an idiot like myself could sell them. In anticipation of strong Summer momentum, followed by continued Fall growth, I can't wait to tell potential clients that the best bang for your buck can be had on this station. I'm impressed by the content and strongly feel that it will be a consistent revenue maker for the company, as well as for myself and our clients.

I must say however that I'm not going to jump back into radio unless you're committed to, and know, the product, and appreciate the clients business. This station I'm talking about is being ignored. I don't want to be ignored Mr. Sales Manager.

When the August 2006 buys come in, and your station is set to make some mojo, I want a serious piece of the action. I'm willing to make that nearly year long commitment! Are you?

KPTK is going to explode before the November 2006 elections. I can think of dozens of Seattle businesses that will want to be a part of it. Show me more than a half assed effort and Infinity just might see my resume. At least get the Production guy to change some of those god-awful PSA's that pollute the unsold inventory.

Yeahhhh....that would get you the job allright...

Unfortunately, none of these businesses are heavy hitters in the Seattle advertising community. If you want to spend your time canvassing the Fremont granola shops and Capitol Hill condom stores for $500 schedules, you might have some luck.

Like it or not, ratings or no ratings, to the majority of people anti-Bush = anti-American. And most mainstream businesses do not want to be perceived as not supporting their country. And isn't it those so-called "rich Republicans" who have all the discretionary income that the Car Toys, Macy's, and Video Only's of our area want?

Look at the Howard Stern show. In many markets he is #1 in prime demos. Yet many of the biggest advertisers have an "embargo" of his show ... that is they do not want their spots placed there. Some advertisers are willing to forego straight numbers for the programming environment in which their spots are placed.

Last time I heard KPTK, they had their sales manager on a promo which pretty much equated advertising on his station with a DONATION! Something to the effect of, "If you want to keep this venue for expressing an alternative opinion, you need to advertise!"

I forget what the report is called, but with the sales types here you probably know the one I mean. It's an abstract of which businesses advertise on which stations. Anyone care to venture the list of reported (non network) KPTK advertisers? Something tells me you won't find any large or publicly traded companies there.

Dangerous Dan
