Dear Star 94

In somewhat of an unrelated note, I'd like to say:
I know most may disagree, but as much of a hit as bedrock is, I'm so sick of it. Not from the amount of plays, but I just don't like the song. The reggae version is alright though. I actually heard bedrock three times during my thirty minute walk to and from the store just now! What happened was every time I changed the station, it came on. I'd rather continuously hear every dj on KKFR use Sean Paul's "temperature" a few times a day than listen to "bedrock".... but I really should not be complaining at all!!! I don't mind Justin Bieber's LATEST hit, and I am glad that Taio Cruz AND La Roux are FINALLY getting played! As far as "carry out", the first time I heard it I was bored out of my mind by it and had to change the station, but now I'm beginning to feel it. Nice to see that we're slowly getting back to "normal" speed 90-100 bpm of rhythmic music again, instead of constantly maintaining this gap between the 70-85 bpm and 105-132 bpm speeds. FINALLY the variety in sound is back to top 40 radio! Well... ok - maybe I should be posting this in the CHR/Pop section where it would relate to more people.

It's so nice how much fresher and newer things seem to sound when you take a break from hit radio for three weeks. I even heard Selena Gomez. She requested my music profile on old MySpace a few days back and I was like "who the heck is this??" Now I hear her electronic beats on the top 5 @ 9 on KISS and I think I'm in love with her!

Hmmmm... anyway.. I do wonder.... WHAT IF 95.5 The Beat STAYED top 40?? What would thing be like now? Hmmm... It surely would've been interesting to see.

When was the last time you listened? Star now plays the Hot AC version of AT 40 and I don't think its edited at all.

I was gonna say...there are multiple flavors of AT40 now, not like the old Watermark Casey Kasem days...and stations had to actually monkey with the countdown to take out the disco or AOR because it didn't fit the format.

As long as we're on the subject, let me rock my hobbyhorse: AT40 The 70s to True Oldies and AT40 The 80s to B98.5. It's not like Premiere/CC has any dog in that fight otherwise...

Just heard Bedrock on Q100
 
I swear this "bedrock" song is haunting me! I turn on KZON on the stereo living room and BAM! There it is! So I change it to KKFR then take my other radio in the bathroom and put it on KZZP to listen while I'm in the shower. Guess what the next song is!! So then I get out, unplug the one in the bathroom and open the door just in time to catch Snoop Dogg's "I wanna rock" and next thing I know, a quick station I.D. slogan and then BEDROCK!!!!

Maybe I should just start streaming Star*94!
Actually no, because if I did, then..... (You already know what might happen!).

I must say countdowns are somewhat interesting, but today's hit music countdowns don't really compare to how it was done back in the day. The only current countdown show I really like is Hollywood Hamilton.

Q's events are hugely popular, and all the jocks from what ive seen and attended make it look and sound huge

Jocks


Brittany- great sound, great on the phones and great on the streets. Makes a listener feel welcomed at an event.

Johnny O- His sound and his personality, both natural. Great with listeners on the phones. Excellent on the streets, knows his stuff. Does a great job overall

Adam Bomb- One of the best in the country on the phones, hit's the streets almost everynight like no other. Natural, Excellent on the streets, live broadcasts. Makes anything sound huge

Of course this is my opinion..remember, message boards are largely opinion but when i listen to the jocks on Q100 and Star, there is a vast difference in talent and the overall sense of "they get it"

Well, I guess I'm still logged in on Q100's control room internet computer a month after leaving, because while I'd agree with much of what has been written in my name, I was not the author.

Time to change the password, on my LinkedIn account as well.
 
You guys are beating this thing to death. Star 94 is not going to change. Star 94 could care less what you think about it. Get out your i-pods, play the songs you want to hear and be happy :)
 
What is the big hang up about changing Star? The cume seems to be fair but their TSL and TO are out of control. Is it management or is it programming not knowing what to do. This is a huge old line station that deserves better. It appears the listeners want to listen but something just keeps driving them away .. low TSL with high TO is the kiss of death! So what's keeping them from making a change or alteration? Management or Programming?
 
A high cume and low TSL are par for the course with the People Meter for CHR's and AC's. In the case of some AC's, the cume has been so huge that it somewhat compensates for the low TSL, giving them a decent or good AQH.
 
Listening to Star 94 over the past few days, I'm really thrilled to report two developments.

One, the Everyday Payday is exactly the sort of contest that appeals to listeners and makes the station sound huge. Having a contest that runs throughout the day and allowing for the jocks to construct fun breaks around it? Perfect.

Second, I've noticed vastly improved musically scheduling - no more "How many whiny Nickelback soundalikes can we fit into a sweep" - and an updated recurrent category that includes uptempo pop music from Usher, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Timbaland, along with upbeat HAC/rock from Gavin Degraw, Jack Johnson, Pink and the Killers.

Much better, Star! Talk about a step in the right direction. I still would like to hear some of the current mass-appeal pop/rhythm stuff (e.g. Jason Derulo, Jay Sean), but meanwhile, I'm genuinely glad to hear this forward progress.

In addition(but I have too admit I don't have the best ears) I think they have tweaked their processing. To my ear the staions sounds much bigger and brighter.
