Dear Tieline...

I'm very glad that there is a new app out from Tieline that now allows the ability to connect Android units to Tielines. Here's the problem though. The entry fee is amost 1000 dollars because all you guys are currently offering is the 500 or whatever corporate pack. How about offering some form of individiual Tieline app like is available for iPhone? I use my iPhone app all the time to diagnose issues with my STL links, when they arise. Others I know have Android phones and have been reluctant to buy your product in the first place due to the lack of compatiblity with their phones. You're loosing business to Comrex due to not having this option.

Comrex offers a free Android app and has a work-around for iPhone for about 6 dollars. I prefer Tieline's app (for my iPhone) because it's a better codec and system, however, it's very, very hard to convince owners that have Androids to buy something that they can't even connect to.

Dear Tieline:

Yes, what OKCRadioGuy said. End of letter

Thank you.

Yes, I absolutely agree. In fact, a manager and I went around and around on this issue regarding the purchase of remote gear. He wanted Comrex for the very reason you mention. We ended up buying the Tieline mostly because I think Tieline is better gear and is more user friendly (ever try to adjust a Comrex as you're wearing large gloves? Thank you Tieline for the large knobs).

I spoke to Tieline about this very issue some time ago when, IIRC, the Android app wasn't even available. IIRC, they mentioned that a free Android app would have to be unsupported and therefore could be unreliable; thus, it wasn't offered.

I have no doubt that many chose Comrex to Tieline for this very reason.

Playing with both physical units, I am with you. I MUCH prefer the bigger buttoned, knobed Tieline stuff. Also, here in OKC, most of us already have Tieline equipment. Compatibilty between plants is big plus for "what-ifs". Many, many engineering guys have at least the lite version of the iPhone app to test. I've actually bought the 300 dollar unlimited single use one. To me, it's a diagnositc must. When the heats on me to "get something working" there's a option available on my phone. I have had bailed out a few of my remotes and several other broadcasters that were broadcasting a game and had connectivity issues with their physical unit. I just got their settings, dialed up their studio unit, and handed them the phone. They did a great deal of their game that way. To me 300 dollars (maybe a bit less on Android since they don't have to pay Apple's store ransom) is a decent value even for what I use it for.

Look for some new announcements about apps from Comrex shortly.

Hopefully Comrex will get full codec quality from their apps. Tieline has much better audio quality when using the phone app. You also have to admit the new mic adapter for the Iphone is a neat setup.

I have been using the Tieline 10 pack for a few months now and since the release of the android I have found that in order to use the 10 pack I must have a iOS device for right now. I called Tieline and they did confirm that it is just a "User" edition, but they plan on changing that in a later release. So from the looks of it, will work for the cheaper enterprise version but you have to own at least one iPhone. To me that is better than a free android Comrex app that only supports G.722 quality audio. I can not wait for them to release a better version of the app. :)
