Dearth of AM signals

What if any are possibilties for a new talk formatted station in Columbus? I have spent a good deal of time there and I do think that WTVN is a very good station with a lot of local talk, but the market seems like an even better opportunity than Cleveland, which has WHK for talk, as well as several other lesser formats on AM (several urban, several religious, all-brokered).

The #2-Hannity, #3-Savage, #4-Dr. Laura (used to be), and #5-Ingraham hosts are not cleared in the market, along with several top weekend shows like Handel and Kim Komando. I understand that the market is probably less for this than one might think after casual observation... however, I'm interested in the reason for a seemingly small number of AM signals. Could someone get a CP to start a new station? The only stations the would appear available for a flip would be WXOL with an anemic signal, and WVKO with a mediocre signal and financial trouble.

I don't think anyone wants to try to do another conservative station here is because WTVN pulls in great numbers, and you can WTAM and WLW here in town too, so that's the 3 biggest AM station in Ohio that you can pick up right here. Besides most of those shows you just mentioned you can get on 790 WHTH out of Newark (at least during the day on their 1kW signal).

What about the proposed move of the AM station from Bellefontaine to Grandview? My understanding is it would be a daytime only station...

It is a daytime only station, at 500 watts! What the hell can they do with that kind of signal while going up against WTVN, WBNS, WMNI, WOSU, and WLW? I think Lou Vito is making a mistake moving it from Bellfontaine to Columbus.

The daytime signal will cover the west side pretty well though. If it was mine I would program it to the Hispanic audience.
