Death of Joel A. Spivak

Please note on today's R-I news on the landing page the passing of Joel A. Spivak on Friday at 75 in Alexandria, VA.

Joel worked at WRC at had retired to the DC area. He was well-traveled in this business and a splendid talent, who happened to also be a wonderful man.

RIP, Joel.

He was doing morning drive on KILT 610 in Houston during the early days of rock 'n roll.

Yeah, that's where "Mr. Speaking" went to after NBC sold WWRC to Greater Media and the new owners changed the daytime format to Nostalgia/MOR. When the format returned three years later so did he; but the station never got its old momentum back. The fact that they survived as long as they did is probably a miracle.
