Debbie Hunter formerly of WZZQ

I wanted to post a quick note about Debbie Hunter. I was told that she passed away sometime over the past week or weekend. Though, I only got to meet her a few times, I always enjoyed listening to her on WZZQ, and I worked across town at Mix-FM. I thought she and Jim Stone did some pretty good shows together as well. I believe she was probably in her 40's, and that is much too soon to pass. Maybe somebody on one of the Illinois or St. Louis boards knows more, as she was in radio in Peoria and St. Louis after she left. Though, I don't spend the time with radio like I used to the past 16 years, I still appreciate this board. We're all here, I hope at least, because we love radio, and Debbie Hunter was one of the good Terre Haute air personalities. She will be missed.

I worked with Debbie in Mid-MO for all of two days and competed against her for about 4 years. However, most people in this market get along, even if we're in competition. So, I always considered her a friend. She died Sunday and was 47. It wasn't entirely unexpected. She had a brain tumor, and I had heard a few weeks ago from another former co-worker that she hadn't been doing well.

I worked with Debbie for two years at WZZQ. I remember our first meeting like it was yesterday. She was a very outgoing personality--and very much the quintessential "radio" person. I enjoyed our time together--for the most part. She as very stubborn in her opinion and we did, on occasion, butt heats. But at the end of the day she was always professional. I will miss Debbie very much and I'm sure the radio community--as well as the community in general--will feel the loss of such a person for years to come.

I remember Debbie Hunter on WZZQ. she was a top notch air talent and was very good on the air at 107.5. Does anyone know if she ever got married and had a family? If memory serves me correctly, she grew up in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Too young to leave us at age 47.

I was not only fortunate to know Debbie a little while we both worked in Columbia, Mo., but she even opened her home to me. I spent my first couple of weeks living in a hotel, waiting for my apartment to be ready. Unfortunately, things were delayed and I was set to be virtually homeless. Debbie "rented" he spare room to me for an insanely low price and gave me full run of the place. Her cat and I even became pals.

We spent very little time together since our schedules were offset. She also spent nearly every weekend with her mother in St. Louis. I can definitively say, though, that she could not have been nicer to me; virtually everyone with whom I have talked would say the same of her.
