Debut of kbjk 100.3 in chico... jack fm

kbjk in chico ca is on the air.. playing an adult hits format.... whats weird is we already have 92.7 bob fm with a similar format.... anyone have any info regarding this new station???

The official Jack-FM station listing---and, by the way, they do not play what they want; they have a tight playlist just like all the other stations---does not include KBJK, but maybe they're just slow in updating the page:

Does KBJK use the same imaging voice (Howard Cogan) as all the other "Jack" stations or are they using their own DJs to do voiceovers? While we wait to see how Bob and Jack fare in Chico, here is a 2009 Sean Ross story about the Bob/Jack battles of 2004-05:

Stumbled upon this while camping this weekend and had no idea what station I was listening to. There is no way the market can support two Jack/Bob stations. I worked in that market for many years. It could hardly support a CHR or Adult Hits station. My 2 cents.

Gotta love the way they moved this from Quincy. They're providing the first broadcast service to the city of "Concow".

Dave B.

Listened over the weekend and it sounds like Sierra Radio is having it programmed by someone out of market. I don't know what I expected.

I do like how it's licensed to Concow. :)

North State radio has sure been more active then radio in Sac.

Tom Huth and his partner with the cash - Mr. Katz - bought the Quincy FM station for only 50 K and relocated the frequency to Concow. The move by another former owner to the town of Durham was denied. The transmitter is on Jarbo Gap. A nice two-way site. The group also owns the 99.7 A near Red Bluff as well as the 1370 and 1490 in Red Bluff as well as several other stations in the area.

They have begun advertising with a small (1/8 page) ad in The Chico News and Review. Just the logo on a blank background. Meanwhile, BOB has been flooding the TV airwaves, dragging out a years-old commercial that highlights both the Chico and Redding stations. Have seen the commercial in heavy rotation on the CBS-NBC-CW triopoly.

"Chico-Red Bluff" OK - Redding is what market Tom Huth wishes he was in. Huth and Katz would get the stuffung beat out of them - IF they had a station in a real market. Huth is a sales person - not a radio station operator. More of a copy-cat.

New Jack

I programmed Bob in Chico since its inception in 06, and hung up my headphones 2011. This Jack is probably a 'station in a box' and typically, has the more aggressive sound of Jack, compared to Bob. This market isn't capable of supporting two Adult Hits stations, although from what I read in another post, the new owners got a steal on this move-in, so revenue may not be critical. Jack, being easy to throw on the air with little staffing, may just be a placeholder. Or, they may just want to get a little cash flow going, and flip it for a quick profit. Or, another format may be in the offing. Interesting, to say the least! Almost makes me want to get back in the fray.

Lots of changes in North State Radio with the addition of Jack 100.3 and Radio 101.7.

I worked on air in Chico from 1998- 2003 and agree, two Adult Hits stations won't survive in the market.
