The digital subchannel Decades (on CBS-owned channels and a few others) is apparently switching to a standard weekday schedule. It had been a sort of scatter shot Classic TV outlet. While Me-TV, Antenna and Cozi have the same schedule week after week, with a few variations, Decades had a different slate of shows each day. Some shows, especially those produced by CBS or Decades, ran on a regular timetable, such as "Through The Decades" or "Ed Sullivan." But other slots would change day by day. Today we'd see Donna Reed at 2pm, tomorrow it might be Doris Day and the next day it would be Dobie Gillis. Often there'd be a tie-in with a star's birthday or the anniversary of the show's premiere.
Now it seems there is a set schedule. I Love Lucy at 9am, Mary Tyler Moore at 2pm, Newhart at 5pm. That's a bit disappointing because often a show would pop up on Decades that were hard to find anyplace else. I liked the 1980s show "Family" starring Sada Thompson and James Broderick (Matthew Broderick's dad). Maybe once a month or so, Decades would run a couple of episodes. Or even a game show like The Name's The Same. Or an early Life of Riley or Topper.
Decades does have a few seldom-seen shows such as Loretta Young on its current schedule. But I fear there will be fewer rarely-seen gems.
