1967: NBC’s Dragnet first airs the episode “A Christmas Story,” a very faithful remake of the popular 1953 Christmas-themed episode “Big Little Jesus.” The original version (the only color episode produced during the series’ 1950’s run) had been an annual holiday staple; NBC apparently wanted a new version with the then-current cast. It is the only original episode to be remade for the 1960’s revival.
1970: WUTV (channel 29) begins broadcasting in Buffalo, New York.
1974: The short-lived animated series Devlin airs the last of its 16 episodes on ABC. The show’s protagonist is Ernie Devlin, a stunt motorcyclist with a traveling circus (inspired by the huge popularity of Evel Knievel).
1974: Actor Richard Long (The Big Valley, Nanny and the Professor) dies, aged 47, after suffering multiple heart attacks.
(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..)
