At nearly 30 years older than Richard Chamberlain, how different would he have been as Dr. Kildaire? Bit of trivia: during "Hawaii Five-O"'s run, the governor was played by Richard Denning, who played the title role in Lucille Ball's radio sitcom, "My Favorite Husband".

Funny . . . by the time the Dr. Kildare TV series was being prepared, Mr. Ayres was probably old enough to play Kildare's mentor, Dr. Gillespie (the role of which went to Raymond Massey).

Not really a moment in TV history, but something of interest that happened 10 years ago tomorrow (and if anyone purchased TV's from that store):

2000: The Montgomery Ward department store chain announces that it will go out of business after 128 years.

Wards going out of business was actually one of the "worst" kept secrets in retail at the time. In other words, Wards tried everything to keep it a secret even though in that kind of business ( hey its kinda like broadcasting)..impossible ! !
My then next door neighbors for example had a problem with the Direct TV system they had just bought from Wards. They called up the toll-free number and in conversation my neighbor told the operator that he had heard that Wards was going out of business. The operator said it was "false info". Then a few days later my neighbor receives a letter from Wards. Was it about his DBS set up? Ah no it was Wards asking him where he had heard the news that they were going out of business so they can "...find out who is spreading such false information abut Montgomery Ward."

Not quite three months later Wards had made it official..that they are going out of business. I don't think anybody was surprised..perhaps maybe those who had worked at Wards.
