1920: Actor Jack Lord (Hawaii Five-O) is born (as John Joseph Patrick Ryan) in Brooklyn, New York.
1940: Director James Burrows (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, and too many other shows to list) is born in Los Angeles.
1945: Singer/actor Davy Jones (The Monkees) is born in Manchester, England.
1951: The Roy Rogers Show airs the first of 100 episodes on NBC.
1957: Journalist Matt Lauer (The Today Show) is born in New York City.
1959: Actress/comedienne Tracy Ullman is born in Slough, Buckinghamshire, U.K.
1961: Commentator Sean Hannity (Hannity & Colmes) is born in New York City.
1963: Let’s Make a Deal debuts on NBC. Five years later to the day, the venerable game show would move to ABC, its home for 8 more years.
1971: Actress Melba Rae (Search for Tomorrow) dies of a cerebral hemorrhage in New York City, aged 49. She portrayed the character Marge Bergman from the show’s inception to her untimely death.
1975: Golfer Tiger Woods is born (as Eldrick Tont Woods) in Cypress, California.
1977: ABC ends a year and a half long experiment of running two soap operas, General Hospital and One Life to Live, at the very unusual length of 45 minutes each. Both shows would expand to one hour the following Monday, January 2, 1978.
1980: Actress Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) is born in Watertown, Massachusetts.
1982: Actress Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) is born in Vancouver, British Columbia.
1996: British sitcom Chef! airs its final episode on BBC1.
2000: Aqua Teen Hunger Force premieres on Cartoon Network.
