December PPM

I feel bad for KTAR Sports 620. A strong signal plus rights to most major sports teams, yet they are only a 2/10 of a share ahead of XTRA Sports 910, which only has four hours of local sports talk a day. And now Chuck & Vince on 1060 The Fan will slowly chip away morning listeners as word gets out over time.

I know individual demos may tell a different story, but underwhelming to say the least.

Speaking of disappointing, how about KTAR's overall numbers? Their overall share has hovered just over 3 all year. I realize the demos are another story, but if you're the Master Blogger, you have to be thinking about changing the news, traffic and weather music beds again. ;D (I tease!!)

Seriously, though, Mac & Gaydos boast about being Arizona's number one [local] talk show, which must mean Bruce is barely registering on the ratings scale. Live, local programming shuts down at 7pm when Dave "Snowball-Your-Debt" Ramsey invades Phoenix for the next 6, count em, 6 hours!! Aunt Edna is loving the 6 hour Ramsey-fest!!!

I don't feel a bit sorry for them. KTAR needs a new morning show desperately. Doug & Wolf got tiresome after only a few months. LIke Bickley & Jurecki on XTRA, it's pretty much All Cardinals All The Time - even when there's nothing to talk about and their season is long over.

But, even more than KFYI, they need to move to FM, and they need to do it yesterday (Where? I have no idea). Dumping Colin Cowherd wouldn't hurt either.

KDUS has never had a successful morning show. Chuck Powell and Vince Marotta are their best shot at success in years, but will anybody outside of this board even know they're there? Powell & Marotta are renting their time slot via their company, GOAT Media Group LLC, so who knows how long it'll last on 1060? At least it starts at 6 AM, so I'll be able to check it out.

The only was Sports 620 moves to FM is if B'ville purchases CBS Phoenix, as was rumored earlier this year. As for Cowherd, he's not going anywhere as long as Sports 620 (or whatever handle it might have on FM) remains an ESPN affiliate. I doubt B'ville would blow up 98.7 to park sports there.

Sports 620 needs to get on FM, but as of now there's no place to put it. :)

This is one of those rare occasions where the guys buying airtime on the third-place sports station are better broadcasters than the morning duo getting paid by the big boys. They will find an audience given their competition, which will lead to advertisers to help pay for their airtime, and hopefully they'll be on for a while. I've seen digital billboards for their upcoming show, but the station's name stands out while "Chuck & Vince" are lost above. Too bad much of the East Valley won't be able to hear it until after 7 AM (7:45 in January) unless they can find an HD radio.

I can not wait to listen to Chuck and Vince. Too bad KTAR sports wasn't smart enough to get them for am drive but I have a funny feeling once they get going and people know they are back, they may just wind up over at KTAR. I hope their show is pop culture related too as well and bring back some of the good bits from the morning ritual days.

7:30 AM in both December and January, which is still a big chunk of morning drive.

Maybe they should have bought time on KayFuNN 1510, "the home of the 7 AM illegal
undocumented power-up." ;D
