December PPM

Besides the usual uneventful flip-flops that bring stations back to where they were earlier in the year:
B101 to to a 9.1: I've always felt the station is competing with Lite Rock 105 and wonder if the Christmas flip during December for Lite drove some to B101.
Lite: Down to a 9.1. See above and also the fact that Coast got a jump on the Christmas music, like it or not.
WCTK: Down to a 7.6. Can't really think of any logical reasons other than the fact that I didn't have a PPM.
Coast: Up to a 7.2. Have they ever seen a 7.2 before. Think Christmas!
Hot 106: Down to a 2.6. I couldn't tell a good from a bad rhythmic CHR station under penalty of death, so no explanation.
Cool 102: Down to a .9. Not a Providence station, but a steady decline over the past few months and they went all Christmas which listeners in this market didn't need. The station doesn't care since the Cape Cod book is the one they live by.
Just superficial stuff here. No cumes listed on the radio-info ratings link.

It is a bit surprising, you'd think BZ-FM would have a bit bigger bump with how well the Pats are doing; but the jump Coast made is astronomical! January PPM is going to be very interesting to look at to see if Lite turns around after the X-mas music is done, B keeps who they got during the Christmas music and if Coast can win over some people now that the Christmas music is done. HJJ continues to be a black hole.
I guess it can be said that all Christmas was a mixed bag here in RI with a decrease for Lite, a huge bump for SNE and ODS and ROR flat (did I forget anyone?)

With how well WEEI-FM and WBZ-FM are doing - do you think 790/99.7 The Score would do as well in this day and age? Didn't last long enough for us to find out. I'd guess some of the old Score listeners tune to Gresh & Zolak on 98.5 now.

Didn't last long enough!?! The Score was on air on 790 to then add 99.7 after the music on 99.7 didn't pull in the ratings....WEEI had decent rating in Providence from the AM side before they came in on 103.7 and dominated The Score...

I don't see listeners sticking with Coast's post-Christmas programming. The reason most CHR and real Hot AC stations don't go with the Christmas format is that their listeners aren't as into it like mainstream AC and now apparently classic hits audience. The Christmas format followers will go back to who they were listening to before. Coast is a real hot AC station that borders on CHR. LITE has nothing to worry about but I do believe next year they'll flip to Christmas music earlier.
