December ratings

Just some interesting points

93.3 went from 4.6 to 7.9 due to the Christmas jump

92.3 is at a 10.5

It's official magic 106.3 held onto their audience 4.5

98.9 went up a few points from a 0.5 to a 0.6 to a 0.9, I think slowly, but surely they'll build a fairly large audience

99.7 the blitz is down to a 3.5. Personally, I think (especially if the tower gets moved to the westside) they should move active rock to 103.9, and make 99.7 Hot AC.

and 106.7 is down to a 1.2, but they just changed (sort of) recently, so we'll see if the change helps them out. I personally don't think it will though.

Those are the only ones that interested me anyways.

I know Urban AC has loyal listeners, but it's still amazing Magic 106.3 can get a 4.5 share with a cume of only 147,000.  Heck, it's amazing they can get that kind of cume at all with that pipsqueak signal.  Looking at it another way, Magic has less than 50% more cume than sister (brother?) 98.9  Jack-FM, but five times the share!  And PPM is supposed to be a cume-favoring methodology??

As for Jack, while .9 AQH is still disappointing it's a good sign that their cume and share are finally building.  Hope it is indeed a slow, steady growth rather than a stall -- or better yet portends some upcoming spurts.  Over the last few weeks I've finally started to run across radios tuned to Jack.  While unscientific, I've seen that translate into ratings in the past.

BTW, 92.3 is at 10.0, not 10.5.  But 10.0 is still a helluva share.

All Access printed 10.5 for 92.3, but yeah, 10.0/10.5, either way I'd be happy if I were them. Also, if 99.7 stays active rock what would you think would happen if they fashioned their playlist very very similar to 98.9 out of Kansas City. That station seems to be a bit more well-rounded in terms of rock, but keep calling it The Blitz, and don't hint to the change either. That station seems to hold onto a decent audience, and the demographics for that city are pretty similar to Columbus, and it's midwestern. I think over time the ratings would go up, and the station could be saved. I still think Hot AC is their best bet, but I just don't see North American doing that.

Just checked a third source and it says 10.5 for WCOL-FM like AA, so maybe R-I is wrong. 10.5 is amazing.

Curious you should mention KQRC Kansas City as a station the Blitz night want to emulate. A long time ago Radio and Records had an interview with Blitz PD Hal Fish and asked him what other Active Rock the Blitz most resembled. He said none were terribly close, but that the closest would probably be KQRC.

7.9 is also exactly what they had last December, as WLZT.  Of course it will go higher with the Holiday book.  "December" only covers through Dec 7.

LOL I <3 that their AQH is higher than WNCI! I don't think I have ever seen an 'underdog' do that before... We all know it's the "Christmas Effect" but still.. Kinda funny to see 93.3 whop a 175Kw FM.

Looks like WTDA is loosing big time to the new Jack FM ... at least that's how it.. I think with Jack's promotion in time if they keep doing things right they will do decently for the multiple "classic hits" formats in this market.. 98.9 has been known as "urban AC" for so long they will not be able to build Rome over night.

speaking of ... Columbus is for sure not an AM market... (with exception of WTVN) the AM signals in this town are at the bottom of the heap.

Move over WTVN. Gary Richards is back in town as of January 1, 2011. He is going to bring back the Progressive Talk format back
to Columbus on WVKO-AM radio. He will also give WTVN some competition....

Almost what the used to get at the height of the old 92X days. Didn't they used to regularly get 13 shares or something like that?

If jack didn't lean so much on classic rock songs they might gets some #s. With 933,101.7 and 103.9 both playing classic hits it would be nice to see one change. 103.9 would be a good choice since it rates the lowest but like most people say that's unlikely to happen a new chr would be nice but I've said that one too many times.

New CHR or Hot AC would be nice.

Why doesn't somebody play the same music WHKC was playing when they first hit the air? They sounded great.

IMO they're much less classic rock oriented now than in their first month.  They still go through occasional stretches with 3 or 4 classic rockers in a row, but most of the time it seems to be under 50% CR -- sometimes more like 33%. Or maybe you consider that a heavy lean?

A majority of the time I listen to them that's what I tend to here.I don't hardly hear anything pop on there like I have with the former Ted fm and Logans Sam FM.
