December ratings

December numbers are out, with the usual distortions from KODA going all-Christmas: https://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb033

KODA with the expected jump. But KLTN also with a big gain.

KKHH trending down, but some of that probably is the Christmas competition from Sunny. KKBQ also down a bit, perhaps for the same reason.

SportsRadio 610 moves up, while SportsTalk 790 has a big drop.

Dumpster Fire 92.1 up very slightly, but still in the zeroes. They seem to have made a few tweaks, so probably safe for a few months.

After having moved away from Houston since March, and coming back to visit for the holidays, I noticed The Spot's music has gotten much more mainstream, consisting of overplayed AC hits, and somewhat softer than it used to be. I don't know if it was an intentional response to try to snare Sunny listeners looking to get away from Christmas music, or if they've been consistent with the softer music selection. At 41, I fit right in their demo and based on what I heard while I was there for Christmas, I would almost never listen (I used to put it on and never change the station). I suspect if they are sounding this much softer than they previously did, the listeners they borrowed from The Buzz and The Eagle probably went back.

The Spot is my music station of choice, and I haven't really noticed a "softer" skew. If anything, they've slightly widened their music selection recently which has kept the overall playlist from getting stale. Perhaps it was just the random batch of songs you heard had a softer edge.

The Spot does seem (to me) to broaden their playlist during holiday periods when "listening at work" is less of an issue.
