Decimation of AM1260

Glenn Beck? Isn't that the guy that screams like a little girl?

Bring back the Shuffle! I actually heard Ace Frehley's "Back in the NY Groove" backed up to "Summertime" by Billy Stewart on that station. Best two weeks of radio ever!

The Shuffle was " Godhead ", to quote Bingenheimer.

I think Levine should be credited for some creativity in radio, something which is really lacking these days. Unfortunately, it would seem that he is undercapitalized to have the ability to do things fullblown as opposed to what he is doing now, from what it looks like, as economically as possible.

He really seems to have written off XESURF 540 by running brokered Spanish religious programming (at least for now).

All of the recent formats have been well executed so it is not creativity that is lacking. The only complaint is that he doesn't stick with any one thing. He is not going to get big ratings given the signal coverage issues which he should have known before buying the station. Even with the increased power it will not give coverage over much of LA County or even the city. Maybe he should have left it as a Valley focused station at the original 5 thousand watts. With a news cooperative from the Daily News and some talk shows as he had with at least one local host it could have made it I would think. It could never be a cash cow but with KKGO doing fairly well it would be sustainable sold to local businesses wanting affordable advertising.

Would it make any sense for Mr. Levine to sell KGIL and just concentrate on KKGO?

Or would KGIL be impossible to sell because of its mediocre signal?

Saul should have dumped 1260 years ago when the economy was better and it might have been picked up by some ethnic broadcasting for under served an audience. Now its just another wasted AM signal.

Hey, are you in Iowa now or just paying a visit there?

I am in Iowa for the peace and quiet. Radio is sad here though, all automated mostly satellite. One local oldies AM is good for the music, bad execution though. As for KGIL if it were a talk station with local news from say the Daily News and a local focused issue oriented talk show or two it could make it if it were sold correctly. 1260 was one of those after WWII drop ins that gave rise to a lot of directional or daytime only AM broadcast stations. Since it was licensed to San Fernando it was never meant to be an LA station.

At the end of the News/Talk experiment it was presenting an interesting mix of shows not likely, except for Laura Ingraham, to get an LA voice. Uf they out on local issue coverage centered on the Valley and West LA along with news to go with it might have survived as it was before the plug was pulled. If you look at the latest PPM the time that Ziegler was there it was creeping up and now it is back to pre-Zig numbers. If they had added another local show in the AM to replace Ingraham and kept Fred Thompson, Ziegler and Lars Larson it could have stayed as news talk. The addition of local news coverage would have helped.

Actually when I was with Valley Cable we almost got a deal with the Daily News to produce local news inserts for CNN but then Cablevision came along and it was dropped. So I feel that they might have been interested to do it for local radio.
