Dee Alexander's Radio Career Kaput?

It has been what, going on almost two years now since Dee Alexander was given the boot at WARM 101.3?

Even though she still technically works for Entercom, I thought the plan was for her to become part of another morning drive team, or wait until Tony Infantino's contract ran out and reunite the couple. So what happened?

Tony's contract with WARM (WRMM) reportedly expired in August, yet he's still employed with Stephens Media. As for Dee, she's doing TV commercials for some heating and air conditioning company.

Those of you who have worked, or still work, in broadcasting are familiar with the old saying " out of sight, out of mind." The longer Alexander is away from the microphone the easier it will be for the (dwindling) radio audience to forget her.

That's pretty much how it works.

Even after two plus year this listener still misses Dee Alexander. The show is OK but lacks the heart it had when Dee was there.

In all honesty do you think management cares?

Hey, they're still paying her. Once the contract is up, my guess is that she'll land somewhere. She's got enough years in the market that she won't be forgotten that easily.

Hmmm...I thought the American side of radio did away with the No compete clause...????

The "non-compete" clause used to prevent you from working in a market for a period of time after they STOPPED paying you. If you're under contract, and being paid, the company can decide to keep you off the air.

And by keeping her off-the-air, Alexander's current employer isn't helping her career one bit. Even when her contract expires, will she be marketable enough for another radio company to even consider her for a job? The answer to that question is not really.

She's not a not a Wease or Lonsberry; both who managed to generate enough of a following that it didn't matter when they were on the sidelines for a period of time. There was enough of an audience waiting for their return. That's not the case with Dee Alexander.

The question still remains could Alexander go it alone without Tony Infantino? So far the reports that Tony's contract expired this summer, and was leaving WRMM radio for another radio gig, have failed to transpire.

Finally why would Entercom continue to pay an air talent a substantial amount of money yet keep them, in this case Dee Alexander, off-the-air? It just doesn't make good business sense to me unless Entercom has a plan to reunite the Tony and Dee team on one of their stations.

I don't know why Entercom has chosen to pay Dee but not give her airtime. My guess is that there's more to the story than we're hearing here. Idle speculation, although possibly entertaining, doesn't get us any nearer the real answer.

As far as reducing her worth is concerned, the average listener isn't as aware of her being off the air, or how long she's been off the air, as most people on this board. How often have you changed gigs, or been on the beach, and had people say "I listen to you all the time"?

At this point, there have been so many changes in personnel that I suspect a lot of people don't know who's on what station anymore. I'd guess that there are still people that write 'CMF down in a diary when they're listening to Wease.
