I was hoping that someone would take the "Deep Album rock" format and run with it. WNRQ's HD2 station was running a goofy version of some kind of classic rock type format, but it was playing too much soft material to be a true "Deep Tracks" type station. As of now WNRQ is running a classic alternative type format on there. Those of you who like Depeche mode (El yucko) will love this format.
What is WKDF FM's plans for HD2 formats? I heard a blues format, but I would be thrilled if they came up with a "Radio Free" HD2. A throwback to the glory days when the legendary Bob Cole, whom many of us remember and have discussed in this forum, brought Underground rock to Middle Tennessee. I was hoping WNRQ would go with a Deep album rock thing, but they clearly have other plans at this time.
I listened to Jim Ladd's program from KLOS FM in LA the other evening and that is living proof how wonderful this kind of radio could be again. The program comes on 10 PM here in Nashville and lasts until 3 AM. He had Brian May of Queen fame on his show the other evening as he discussed current projects and work with Paul Rodgers.
Ladd did a theme set of tunes about Cinco De Mayo. Grateful Dead, Los Lobos, Door's Spanish Caravan in that theme set. Now did you ever think that kind of song selection would be flying high again on Terrestrial radio again?
