Deer Creek Sells Two in Chico

Came across this story in Radio Ink:

The sale of KCKS-FM and KEWE-AM in Chico, CA was announced by Media Venture Partners. Deer Creek Broadcasting and Coloma Hamilton City announce the deal to sell KCKS-FM and KEWE-AM to Tom Huth for $525,000.

KCKS-FM is a Class A FM at 101.7. KEWE-AM is a non-directional Class C at 1340 and operates with a daytime and nighttime power of 1,000 watts. The stations serve the Chico, CA radio metro. Deer Creek Broadcasting will be retaining the four other stations it currently owns that serve the Chico market: KHHZ-FM, KHSL-FM, KMXI-FM and KPAY-AM.

Huth is still trying to push 100.3 A into Concow - Chico from Quincy. Could be a "dead COW" -- if the FCC sticks to the new more restricted "move in" rules. Huth has already moved the 99.7 A and 1370 AM out of the Quincy area into the Red Bluff area. Only one last commercial frequency at Quincy -- and 95.9 is operating as a Non-Com station.

I am VERY surprised to see this. I guess they're not making money with Fox Radio.

I worked there early on in my career (before the addition of 101.7) and 1340 KEWE didn't do much at all. Surprised they're dumping the FM though. Probably a package deal.

Anyone have any updates on this? Are the stations still being operated by Deer Creek Broadcasting or has the new owner taken over?

HA!! Check it out - looks like all we have to do is talk about it and it gets approved.
:)

Now if they'd only act on this one:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_list.pl?Application_id=1527163

Would love to hear KVMR clearly in Woodland again.

Does KLRS prohibit you from hearing KVMR clearly in Woodland? Unfortunately, I don't think KLRS is going away anytime soon.

The link you provided was for 104.7 K284AG licensed to EMF. Is EMF transferring that property to KVMR?

Not so much. It's the HD radio sidebands from KQEI that are the real culprit.

If it came up right the link was for an assignment of license from EMF to Nevada City Community Broadcast Group. Indeed, that one was approved today. See? All we have to do is talk about it here...

There we go! :)

Lots of chatter on the Sacramento board about the transfer of K296GB 107.1 in Sacramento from EMF to KFBK (Clear Channel). Please join in if you have insight. :) Maybe if we talk about it things will happen.

What kind of new format could we expect?

Seems this thread has gone cold. Things tend to move slowly in the North Valley.

I have no idea what the new format will be.
