Brad Hawkins. He just can't seem to grasp the anchor role, especially when he is solo. At 6pm He lead off with the Missing mountain climbers. The story ran thre minutes and ended. The you could see he was searching for his camera, and started to read the story about the mountain climbers again. You could tell someone yelled at him on his IFB,as he appeared startled, mumbled an apology, and started to read the next story. He then proceeded to have an attack of fumble mouth on every other story and screwing up the intro to Steve . Ch. 8 ,his time as an anchor is done. Cut it loose.

Seeing NBC5 just let go of some of their more quality people, I think its time WFAA went shopping for some fresh talent.

I saw the newscast and you are right about what happened. I do not find him doing that on a regular basis like you seem to. In the past two weeks both the main anchors have had similar occurrences to them. A lot these seem to come from the reliance on TelePrompTers. I am thinking some of these problems relate to who is pushing the buttons behind the scenes.

Channel 5 ought to be able to win an emny off their blooper tape for 2006 with what's come off their reading of a TelePrompTer.

He normally doesn't stumble like that... I believe there was a problem with the Teleprompter....If you noticed, he kept looking down at his script. A lot of things go on behind the scenes during a live telecast...so don't judge the anchor.

There was some new guy on Channel 8 on the Sunday news morning broadcast. I'd never seen him before.

I saw Brad Hawkins once at an airliner collectibles show. The dude has some SERIOUS chest hair..........I wanted to go hand him a razor. :)

David Schectner (sp?) anchored sunday morning. He is the new senior reporter...This is the time when everyone goes on Christmas vacation and the benchwarmers get their chance. They should have left him on the bench.

Hey KLIF, I'm going to have to disagree with you about Brad. He's one of my favorites. He's handsome, bright, and unlike many of his peers, isn't afflicted with a huge ego. I like seeing Brad's live reports. He brings emotional literacy to his stories. I think he's one of the better anchors on local TV. He's a keeper.

 err... I think that chat room might be two doors down to the left ::)

You might have misunderstood my point............
I'm about 200% heterosexual. The serious chest hair was GROSS. It was like he was COVERED in the stuff. YUCK !!

Hey Grant:

Brad is more suited as a field reporter not an anchor. He just gets lost in the shuffle, and the slightest tech error, etc. seems to throw him off pace the remainer of the newscast. I understand the TD making errors,(and regretably they do it a lot),but Brad has had plenty of time to settle down. The interesting difference is when he is teamed with someone he appears to do ok with with "flubs" far and few. When he is solo, he is lost.

I actually haven't seen him on the air recently enough to comment, but I did like him when he was paired with Rebecca Rodriguez. They made a good weekend pair of anchors.

Why does Channel 8 sometimes have Gloria and John do the weekend news? Is it because it is during a ratings period? I've always wondered that.

They bring in the main anchors for the 10PM newscast on Sundays when ratings are being taken. A lot of folks are home on Sunday evenings watching TV and ABC has lately had good ratings pulls on that night too. The main talent keeps the people watching and might even pick up some viewers for week nights that normally do not watch. (I am not in the business, just my opinion on what they are doing)

I was not questioning your sexuality, I just found your comment funny on several levels. One being since we don't have to look at his chest on the news, what's it matter. Anyway I was just having a little fun with your observation. :D

Jay, we talking wolfman or robin williams hair coverage?

Ya know, they do have treatment options for that ;)

Back to business, seeing that some Dallas media outlets have let their people go (NBC5), why doesnt WFAA go after Loreana HE-nandez for their weekend cast, to replace Wolfboy?

And one of the nicest people at 8 (sadly there's only a handful)!

Some markets (KMBC in Kansas City comes to mind) have their weeknight anchors anchor late night Sunday broadcasts on a regular basis.
