DeFede DeParts WINZ

Jim DeFede's year-long stint doing mornings at Clear Channel progressive talker WINZ/Miami is apparently over. DeFede never returned this week after the Labor Day break, and his very existence is now M.I.A. from the WINZ Web site.

The Broward-Palm Beach New Times ran a comment from DeFede that strongly hinted that he will resurface shortly elsewhere in the market: "I had a great time at WINZ and I look forward to being on the air again at another station very soon," he said. "You can expect an announcement in the coming days."

For now, DeFede's producer, Nicole Sandler, who doubles as morning news anchor/sidekick and WINZ promotions director, will be filling in as host for the rest of this week and next, raising the inevitable speculation that she will be added to the short list of possible permanent DeFede replacements.

Too bad about Defede. He was rough around the edges and sometimes difficult to listen to, but there was somthing there. Nicole sounds great. She's a breath of fresh air when she fills in for him. Knowing CC, they'll probably give her the gig at half of what they paid Defede.

Or they'll put Footy there. It makes more sense than WIOD. But I'd rather hear her than his show. The few times I've listened on Saturdays they've been train wrecks. Not sure if it belongs on Y or somewhere else.

DeFede was rough around the edges, but had deep connections & subsequently a roledex. He had great guests. Nicole is a breath of fresh air? She's awful man. I'd rather listen to static personally. I thought she was part of the problem on that show. She won't be able to get the type of guests Jim did either.

Jim has connections and a Rolodex, but that doesn't make him a decent radio host. A good experiment, no one listened (I hear it was the lowest rated show on the station), next. And I bet it won't be Nicole.

So he is headed over to WFTL once his non-compete is done. He did his homework, because he's going to one of the few stations with less listeners than 940. If he got a ZERO on WINZ with that daytime signal what will he get on a station with no listeners and no future?? At least he'll collect a 6-figure pay check. Hope it clears.

Who says he got a zero on 940? I'd love to see those figures.

I don't see how a liberal talent works on a station that airs all the right-wing talk shows that are "rejects" from WIOD and WJNO. FTL spent a lot of money on local talent and blew it -- what makes James-Crystal think this time it will be different?
