As a troller of good radio threads, and an avid Jesus Freak myself, I have come to a conclusion in here... if my esteemed colleagues will spare me some levity...
WHAT IN THE HECK IS GOING ON IN HERE?!
Understood, we have CCM-format bashers, but where is the intent. Do you (knobby-kneed, feeble-minded dude, bent at God and blaming him for removing Anime from Cartoon Network) bash CCM because you see the dynamic potential in a format that caters specifically to the more than 180 MILLION Christians in this country? Or more specifically, you just want to bash God?
If it's the former, I agree wholeheartedly. CCM, and all Christian radio formats (christian, religious, news/talk, alt, and yes, even listener-supported), have a world of potential at their fingertips. But look at what they are touching? HINT: It is not the pulse of their listeners. There doesn't seem to be an active outreach to the talent and bridging that with the listener. Look at Country radio for example. Same format, same contests, same uptempo outreach... different results. Why? They care what their particular listeners have to say. Why else does NASCAR do so well? Care. Why should CCM blow up in their respective markets? Care. However, that care should be internal.
Care about your marketing. Care about your promotion. Care about your MD and make sure he or she has the most recent and often, cutting edge stuff... not just remakes of 70s songs that some unsung artists wants to capitalize on. There is much ado about something in this blog. For heaven's sake, if you are on here just to bash God, don't. We would love to talk to you about that as well, and see Jesus transform your life as he has all of ours... just not in here.
