Just heard that Deirdre Degatta is out at Kiss 108 due to MORE cuts. Voice Tracking? Is it coming to large market middays?! Where is the talent pool anymore? This is INSANE!

Re: More? Who's Left?!

I've been listening all morning...haven't heard her on at all...or any DJ for that matter. It sounds like the good ole' computer is pumping out the music and production on auto. She is a great talent and I am sure she will catch on somewhere. With all these layoffs with KISS and JAM'N, it would be a good time for a station to flip to Top 40 and hire some of these talented people and get CC while they are hurting.

I did catch some of Matty this am...making jokes about layoffs and the whole "when the cobra people come in to meet with you" lines. I thing that is really in bad taste as he is talking and making jokes about his co-workers...but I guess you would expect that of him.

Wait....as I write this it sounds like a voice track DJ....maybe "Shelly Wade??" just read her pre-recorded liner from somewhere USA.

Way to go CC....this sounds HOT......NOT!

It's just so sad.

A real shame, really feel bad for Deirdre, she has worked SO hard. A cancer survivor, taken down by the mighty Clear Channel. Not only a great jock but a terriffic person. I've watched her career grow from the early days as an intern at KISS, from part-time to full-time at Jammin, and then on to KISS.
And thoughts of saddness to the others at KISS (sales and promotions) who have been shown the door.

Re: More? Who's Left?!

A very sad day in Boston radio...I can't believe that one of the top stations in this market and truly one of the top stations in the country has become nothing more than a jukebox during a key daypart.

Best of luck to Deirdre. I've never met her personally but I have friends who actually have and I've heard that she is a delightful person. I'll miss hearing her voice on the radio.

As to the future of middays on Kiss, I find it hard to believe that this VTing is permanent. Given that Jam'n still has live midday and even Coast in Providence still has a live midday (both CC properties as well), I think there's a chance Cadillac will eventually get someone on the air live at Kiss....probably just someone a lot cheaper. But perhaps, I'm being quite naive. Only time will tell....

Also hope the Mays family has a very happy holiday this year...they sure deserve it. ::)

Re: More? Who's Left?!

This is terrible. Great people were let go on Friday...and all for what?

Radio bothers me more and more the longer I work in it.

Boston is a large market station...there should not be a voicetracking mandate. Eh.

Re: More? Who's Left?!

Remember what Harvey Wharfield said on his final WZLX show when they couldn't agree on a new contract:
Never love a corporation, it will never love you back.

Re: More? Who's Left?!

Deidre was a great lady. Always kept an upbeat show, I was pissed when Ed McMann was taken off mid days but grew to like Deidre. The fight she had against cancer and her stories are inspirational. The best of luck to her. 93.7 should start taking CC layoffs. There are so many across the nation now. Shelly Wade VTing on Kiss? Shes from Z100 in NYC. I know she runs a good show but its targeted for NYC.

She's originally from Houston. How about that? A real New Englander is taken off the crown jewel of New England radio for a Texan who has a show in New York. Shelley's a talented lady, but this is just pitiful. If Kiss is having money problems, they should have Jingle Ball concertgoers leave money in the Toys For Tots box, and use that to pay her salary.

Re: More? Who's Left?!

This is a tough break for Dierdre especially so close to Christmas!. She is a talent and she will catch on somewhere probably not in Booston but somewhere worthy of her talent. Shelley Wade is a great jock, no question. She would not be in New York at Z100 if she were not but it does seem strange that a station the size of Kiss, in a market the size of Boston would run a canned mid day show no matter how good the person is voicetracking it. Clear Channel is known for it's cut to the bone way of doing business but this one is just a left field sort of move.

Good luck Dierdre!. Keep your chin up, you're a talent and you will be fine!.

kiss deidre degata out of here

CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WXKS (KISS 108)/BOSTON middayer DEIDRE DEGATA was replaced on the air today by WHTZ (Z100)/NEW YORK's SHELLY WADE.Additionally, WJMN (JAM'N 94.5) Promotions Coordinator CHRIS KUNG is out.

Re: kiss deidre degata out of here

See the thread below titled: "more, who is left?"

Re: More? Who's Left?!

Corporate has obviously decided to cut their losses in that daypart.
A truly chilling move for the industry, but this market in particular.
Their version of throwing their hands in the air, crying "Uncle!"
It seems this is where the trend is going. It's not about building an audience, seeking the audience, programming to attract an audience.
Not anymore.
It's about throwing stuff against the wall, seeing what sticks, and when investors don't see enough R.O.I. (look it up), whip out the knife and start chopping.
Corporate radio has its good points. This is not one of them.

This is really a blow to Boston and insult to radio listeners. I don't mind overnight no DJ or VT but to run VT shows on Kiss and Jamn during the day is a travesty.

Didn't I just read that Jam'n will no longer have a live midday person either?

http://bostonradio.blogspot.com/

Maverick, who was on 7 p.m. to midnight, has been replaced by JAM’N midday DJ Gee-Spin. Gee-Spin is being replaced by Los Angeles DJ Suzy Tavarez, who will “import'’ her show from sister station KISS 102.7 FM.

Re: More? Who's Left?!

Actually listened to Jam'n today. Gee-Spin was on the midday and LBD (I believe the same LBD from now defunct Hot 97.7) was on this evening at 7 pm. So I don't know how true this is...

But I would imagine Gee-Spin will have his hands full between playing MD, midday host and being Jam'n's only mixer now that Barboza was let go.

This is a total bloodbath. It's a really sad day...the top two music stations in Boston are becoming skeletons of their former selves.

I find it funny that they say they want to focus more on their Web sites when they haven't even updated their jock pages. All the fired jocks are still up on the Web sites.

Also, Jackson Blue was on for Romeo! today followed by Spanky doing the night show. What's up with that? And why not just have MD Tyler do a live midday show and have Ed McMann VT the entire overnight? ???

Re: More? Who's Left?!

Suzy Tavares (from KIIS-FM in LA) was indeed on Jam'n at 10 am this morning. She sounded a lot better than Shelley Wade yesterday on Kiss. I thought Suzy wouldn't be as good a fit either. Having listened a lot to Suzy on KIIS online, she's a very good CHR jock. I've listened to Shelley a few times online on Z100 as well and she's very solid. But to a certain extent, they both sound so canned on Jam'n and Kiss. Every single break is nothing more than another promo for the next station-sponsored concert.

You can only lower the quality of your product so much in an effort to cut costs and make more money before the product becomes so bad that consumers abandon your product to such a degree that you can no longer make any profit. Clear Channel is putting the nails in its own coffin. One day, they will implode. The saddest part is they CC is bringing down some of the best radio stations in this country with it... :-\

Re: More? Who's Left?!

Ed McMann also VTs middays on sister station WERZ in Portsmouth, NH. I guess he's heard on middays in every CC New England market except his own! LOL. He does 3-6AM overnights on Kiss after Tyler 12mid-3AM.

Here's Deirde's Bio from the KISS website. She did not deserve to be abruptly shown the door. I'm sure she'll land a good gig.

Deirdre's Bio
I’ve come full circle! As an Emerson College student the most memorable moment was when I got accepted into the internship program at Kiss 108! I grew up listening to Kiss 108. It was my favorite radio station. I started out as an intern on the Matty in the Morning Show. I also interned in the production department and became a “Club Kiss” mixer. It was the knowledge I learned and the people I met during my internship that gave me the ability to work in the music business. I worked for Jive and Giant records, I was director at the Boston Record Pool and I was the resident dj at Mercury Bar (now Gypsy Bar) in Boston. I got back into the radio end of the business working at WWKX-Kix 106FM (now Hot 106FM) in Providence, RI. This led to my job at Kiss 108’s sister station WJMN – Jam’n 94.5FM which was my home for the past 6 years. Now I have a new home weekdays from 10a-3p right here on Kiss 108!

What else should you know about me… January of 2004 had to have been the most challenging year of my life. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, I’m happy to say that now I am a breast cancer SURVIVOR and I am cancer free (hopefully, for a very long time)! What helped me get through all of this was the support from my amazing family and friends. I’ve learned a few things from this difficult journey… For starters, I appreciate life and the people who are a part of my life. I enjoy every day, even if I don’t do anything special, and I’ve learned to be positive and optimistic. I’m just so happy to be alive and to be working at Kiss 108, the station that inspired me to pursue a career in the radio business!

She sucked anyway. Talked wayyyyyyyy too much. I used to drive around ina truck collecting recycling beofre I got into the world of high finance, she was still at JAMN back then - talked too much there too. And come on, Deidre!?!?!? She talked ethnic with a name like Deidre. Pah-lease.

CC has it right - just like Morrissey sang a billion years ago, "Hang the Bloody DJ because the music they constantly play says nothing to me about my life"
