Deja Vu For ABC Re: TGIT

ABC is running a trio of dramas on Thursday nights and labeling it "TGIT." This is so reminiscent of their Friday night sitcom block from back in the day known as "TGIF." They couldn't come up with something more original? Is "TGIW" far behind, as well?

If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Since when do any television network execs give a damn about "original"? All they care about is whether or not it works.

Exactly. I'm sure ABC's actual intention was to mirror the old "TGIF" branding, so it would stick in the viewer's brain. Much the same as NBC years ago echoing the original "Must See TV" Thursday night slogan later with "Must See TV - Wednesday"...or whatever.

And "TGIF" certainly isn't, right now.

It's all I can do to tolerate "Cristela", but it mananges to be just good enough that I keep watching.

"Last Man Standing" is one of my favorite shows but they need to put it somewhere else. Wednesday night seems to be full of good comedies, so no room there.

I never got interested in "How to Get Away with Murder" but if I had the time to watch it maybe I would. "Scandal" is as good as ever, though I am weeks behind.

Online I have seen illegal copies of a Canadian medical dramedy that has been compared to "Grey's Anatomy", but I actually like the Canadian show "Saving Hope" which aired on NBC in this country for only one season. The gimmick is that the one surgeon can talk to the dead and people who are dying. Plus Erica Durance is not only hot but really likeable.

Actually it's a lot different. TGIT actually uses 'God' full-stop to make it 'Thank God It's Thursday' rather than the euphemistic 'Goodness' used in TGIF. The other difference is it's the first time a female announcer is part of the promotional effort for the night rather than 'boring NBC Friday voice guy' or whoever does the other nights of the week. It certainly works better for hashtag purposes, which is why it was branded that way in the first place; better this than some terrible branding come up with by some MBA idiot.
