Deja vu for Stephanie Miller? (flagship dropping her...?)

Haven't seen anything about this anywhere else but Donna Halper mentioned on boston-radio-interest mailing list that CC will be replacing progtalk on KTLK in LA with Spanish. Someone on the list replied, "holy crap,
that's Stephanie Miller's flagship station". Well I'd think her show would continue via Jones and they find
another way to produce it, etc.; it HAS happened to her before...

...in 2000 when KABC replaced her with Mr. KABC. ABC Radio was syndicating her and her show did continue
despite losing her "flagship" (she even kept doing it from the KABC studios I believe); a stream of her
show was posted on her site, and some other stations like WRKO kept her on. Then 3 months later
ABC pulled the plug entirely.

Boston board has link to brief Boston Globe article: Clear Channel honcho acknowledges Air America's
days in Boston are numbered.

Well, to be accurate, the title would be incorrect if that rumor is true. The "flagship" is not "dropping her", if it's true, the entire station is changing format.

I don't know how true the rumblings are, or the rumblings that Steph is #2 in talk radio in morning drive in LA, after KFI's Bill Handel in the same building. (Boy, how KLSX misses Stern!) Numbers can say anything, of course...Handel could be #1 by a truckload over #2.

Well, Handel has been #1 12+ recently (and may well still be) and cumes some ridiculous number approaching 1,000,000 listeners a week. Stephanie is #2 in A25-54 beating McIntyre on KABC, Ingraham on KRLA, Carolla on KLSX, and I suppose now Beck on KLAA, and I would say it is a distant second. It would be almost impossible for anyone to be anything but.

Miller does a show in a building with studios for several radio stations all owned by the same people, so it's not as if she would be out on the sidewalk. She points out she sees her counterparts on the right on another station every morning, as well as Ryan Seacrest, who has the largest parking space the building has to offer. Many stations are all housed in the same office space in today's radio world.

I would assume that Miller gets along well with others in the building, but Handel, on the other hand...

KFI/Los Angeles personality Bill Handel got a little hot under the collar with Jamie White, morning hostess at Clear Channel clusterpal KYSR (Star 98.7), on the air this morning. Handel, who occasionally brings his kids to work, went into Star's studio and began yelling at White live, allegedly because she threw his kids out of her studio.

According to a clip that aired on KTLA-TV this morning, White opened the exchange by telling Handel, "I just pointed at your kids with my orange flute and told them don't come back." Handel angrily responded, "If you ever talk to my kids that way again, Jamie, I am going to kick your ass. You are not allowed to talk to them! Are you telling me they can't be on the fifth floor?"

White shot back, "I'm telling them they can't be right there," to which Handel yelled, "You have such goddamn losing numbers on this loser show. Shut up! You don't talk to my kids that way." Handel also shouted, "Don't you touch me!" which suggests that someone was trying to force him out of the studio -- right before he dropped a couple of f-bombs on his way out.

The rumor about KTLK was probably generated by talk of CC's new owners having to divest themselves of properties in markets where they would be in excess of the ownership caps

I thought they had already done that in L.A. when they stopped running the Entravision stations.

As far as I know, they're in the clear there.

I do know CC's been on a tear lately, flipping many stations. They did it again in Atlanta today.

Donna Halper has updated her statement about KTLK. She now says that he sources at Jones deny the claim that KTLK will be flipping to Spanish.

BTW, Ryan Seacrest doesn't do his KIIS show from that building anymore. And Steph hasn't shared any "riding the elevator with Ryan" stories in months. :D

I believe Mr. Seacrest is now doing his show exclusively from that radio studio the folks at E! built for him.
