Dekker replaced at 99x!

Sources confirmed that Dekker has been taken off nights at 99x. He will remain with the station in other capacities. Rumors have it that Matt C and Lewis will take their sat night show to full time nights...

I personally think Dekker did a great job. No word on what he will be doing for the station. He was one of the few guys that you didn't fit in the radio box. I hope someone picks him up - HELLO DaveFm!

Dekker did do a great job and according to the memos posted on here was the only staff member that didn't have emarrasing numbers. The one thing to remember though is that Cumulus has a outstanding track record since they took over. They have to know what their doing. Afterall John's dad had a lot of money.

What a mistake! Dekker has been a favorite of mine for a while. He offers something different than everyone else and IMO was a shining star in the 99X line-up. I wondered if something was up last night when English Nick filled in and I never heard him say anything like he was in for Dekker. I'd rather see Nick (another longtime favorite) get the shift than Matt C and Lewis. Well I guess I'll just be listening to Knox only during nights (except for Friday nights 9pm - 12am- I listen to Eagle 106.7). Great way for a poorly rated station to piss off more listeners. First The Retroplex...now Dekker. It's like they are trying to see if they can do any worse.

I have hear Matt and Lewis and the show is not bad that being said I think Dekker is very good also. Dekker was on with Axl yesterday at around 4:45 when they were giving away some contest perhaps a trip to the VMA's. Perhaps 99x is gearing up for their new morning show to go against GIANT Brian. The Dekker and Tim Andrews Experience.

Maybe Neil Millman will give him a shot on his fantasy radio station... ;D

Yeah, right.

I've heard English Nick mention he was in for Dekker while he was out in Las Vegas with the winners of the VMA trip. It would somewhat surprise me if he was taken off the night shift. Come to think of it, the previous night time personalities have gone on to a morning show (Toucher then Whip to the Buzz).

C'mon folks, get it right! There's a press release floating around and everything...

Dekker isn't leaving 99x, they're just changing his role (finally, thank goodness- I get tired of hearing him say 'I don't care about my job'). He's not on Thursday and Friday because he's in Vegas for the VMA trip (which the plugged in every stop set for two weeks straight- duh). In fact, I expect he'll be back for one last week on his night time shift. Don't know that for sure though (see, when you don't know something is true, all you have to do is say so!! How easy!!).

Matt C and Lewis aren't so bad. In fact, I expect they might do really well in that slot. Dekker's ratings weren't that great afterall....

You wanna talk about BAD - ouch! The only reason he's on Project is money issues, as in "let's pay him hourly, and save".

Dekker is not leaving 99X and will head up the AV Room - probably the most innovative thing 99X has done in years.

The AV Room is not on the radio though. Why don't they try and figure out something to do innovative on the air. Dekker may still be employed at 99X but with him not being on during nights- it's pretty much like he's gone.

I was a bit angry with my first post in regards to this. I'll miss Dekker but I've not caught Matt C and Lewis' show enough to pass judgment. I do like switching back and forth between Project and X to get a mix between the 2 (and to avoid Coming Undone and Black Betty on 96 and Fallout Boy and Hey There Delilah on 99). I don't think Knox is that bad. I like him better than Aaron who he replaced on The Buzz. The most frustrating thing about him doing nights on Project is to think of all the people from 96rock who lost their jobs who were better and could've/should've been kept around for The Project.

I agree with your Knox take... I'm sure he's a nice guy, and he's better than he was, but is ONLY there cause he came cheap. But hey, more power to him - he gets to work on a good rock station, in market 9, and is gaining experience every day.

Dekker won't stay at 99x if all he's doing is creative writing. When you're used to being on-air, the idea of working behind the scenes is as exciting as X's playlist - not very.

Dekker reminded me of how we used to do radio. Not liner cards or who the heck was playing at "the Cavity" that night. He had an idea of what he wanted to say and improv'd.

Now, he was young-- and I hate the young... but he was the best Atlanta had. To take him off the air for those two AssMonkeys... is beyond a shame. They're a corporate dream. Like George Michael shilln' Diet Coke. Just as bad.

If Dekker wanted off the air, then fine, his decision. But he was the last real jock we had. Don't care much if you disagree. These are opinions, of course. Mine just means a little more than yours.

Dekker-- old proverb for you: If you turn your face to the sun, the shadows are at your back.

Good luck brother... you were the best we had.

Has anybody even thought about this idea may be a promotion? Come on, guys. There are many more jobs in radio that is not on the air. Maybe this was a mutual decision. Just because he no longer has a full shift, doesn't neccessarily mean he's taking a step back, or that he's off the air completely. He'll still be on the air during different parts of the day, and he'll be doing podcasts.

An excellent point. He's a creative guy. Who doesnt belong on the air. Very talented. Just not as a jock. I'm feeling quite bi-polar

hey millhouse, are you on the air anymore?

even you were better on 99x than matt c & lewis

Let's be very clear about this...it is NOT a promotion. The only gig a jock MAYBE takes that makes him happy to be off the air is PD. Pulling a guy off air to do website/podcast/AV Room stuff is absolutely not a vote of confidence. Especially when you're being replaced by rookies. I actually think Matt C. and Lewis have potential but am sorry this happened to Dekker. He's talented but doesn't fit the Cumulus mold (kind of like Toucher, who's now kicking butt in Boston). You watch, this will lead to great things for Gregg and 99X will have shot itself in the foot once again.

Yeah, I know for a fact this is not a promotion. Cumulus doesn't want any one person to be bigger than the system. That's why they yanked the Retroplex from Steve Craig. Another example of why radio is SO bad today - especially in Atlanta.
