Delaware Today N/Talkers

If you get a chance, you may want to read the article in January's Delaware Today mag about Delaware talk radio. It covers Rick Jensen, John Watson and the morning host on WGMD. No new ground is covered, but I got a better appreciation of Watson's professional radio background.

But I repeat: if you get a chance. The article starts on page 70 and covers 4 pages with lots of room devoted to pics. It really seemed to be a filler piece requested by the marketing department so WDEL, WILM and WGMD would spend ad money. At $3.95, a dollar per page, that's a bit pricey for one article. You may find other articles of interest; I did not. The quality of this mag has really gone down.

The good news is the New Castle County Libraries have Delaware Today, so it just means a quick trip to the library to read the article.

I worked with John Watson while at WILM, and yes, John is a very nice person, he was easy to work with and very helpful to me when I first started to do my talk show. John and I would every so often "chew the fat" and it was always interesting to hear his stories of his life in radio. John has a great deal of broadcast on the air work experience, time as a PD, and even some engineering experience at a radio station years ago. My only kick with John is he constantly intrrupts his callers, if he'd stop doing that, I'd listen daily as I used to a number of years ago before he started doing that. John has some good insights, and can make good points, but he just needs to let the other person have their say, before setting them straight. In spite of that, John's show still is a very popular show. Can't knock success.

In the new Delaware Today, they do a feature on our "wonderful" governor Ruthie. Featured or comments by John Watson, Rick Jensen and Mr. Loudell. These guys are sure getting a lot of publicity all of a sudden.
