Deleted Station License...

I noticed today on the FCC database and at radio-locator that a radio station has had it license deleted. WSLV in Ardmore, Tenn. I couldn't find any reference to why. Is there a way to find out if the owner just turned it in or if they lost it for some other reason. If it is now perminantly off the air does it mean it can't be sold or would you have to reapply for the channel?Just curious.

There is not much about it in the FCC's Public CDBS pages, other than the license was deleted on June 8th. It may be too early for them to post any letters that might give a clue about what happened. The CDBS isn't known for being prompt. Were they up for license renewal last year? Maybe they "forgot" to file. It has happened before. A station in my area was deleted last fall because they failed to renew. Despite not having a license, they continued running programming until March or April. That makes it a pirate station by any definition I know. Now it broadcasts a 10KW blast of very clean dead air. It does that 24/7 as far as I can tell. Worse yet, it is a daytime only station. So much for enforcement.

Indeed it is because they did not file their license renewal. According to the database, the license expired August 1, 2004. The last renewal listed was from 1996. Search for DWSLV in the FCC's AM broadcast station query.I know the FCC periodically will delete a license should the station forget to file. In some cases, the station can get their license back. In my area, station KDPS filed its license about 4 months after it expired and after the callsign had been deleted. The FCC approved the license renewal (with a fine of course) last week. They weren't even off the air for more than a few weeks having applied for an STA as soon as they heard their license was deleted.WSLV might not be so lucky since it has now been two years. I'm sure they will file a renewal and apply for an STA, whether or not the FCC grants it remains to be seen.

I believe the station is still on the air and I saw on the FCC web database that they have applied for their renewal. We'll have to wait and see what happensw. Also the station is currently on the market for kind of a steep price considering it's a daytimer and without a license.

I know the price may seem steep, but it also comes with nearly 5 acres of land and other equipment/stuff as well..
