Delilah coming to KBIG

Just read that DELILAH will air from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights on KBIG. More non-local programming by CC.

What a mistake.
KBIG has been going more rhythmic AC.
If they want to fend off KMVN (and they have done a good job so far) they need to maintain consistency.
Delilah is way too AC.

They're going to go from Boogie Nights to Delilah right after? That's nuts. That's as nuts as when they had the dead people show coming on right after Boogie Nights, and then followed by another mix show! Insanity.

Yes, a huge mistake. So far they've been cleaning KMVN's clock and now that Delilah gets her wish, Movin gets a
free ride from 10-3 at night. This truly is cutting off one's nose to spite their face. I'll bet Lovesong's On The Coast
creams her again just like before. Now you're going to put a non-local Soft AC show in the middle of one of KBIG's
better rated dayparts. And it's not even a very good show. It make's ZERO sense. But hey, Delilah and Premiere
get what they want. They can now brag that her show is in the top markets...
So lame...

It sounds like to me that KBIG was forced to carry the Delilah program.I assume that they will carry the satellite version of the show.I thought maybe Art Astor would carry the show(1510 KSPA)and air it seven nights a week.Next stop,San Diego,Houston,Boston, and XM Radio!Would it make more sense to carry the program seven nights from 12:00 until 5:00 in the morning on KOST? If I had several million dollars to waste, investing in the Delilah show would be it!

Of course she was forced on KBIG. Premiere has been trying to get her on in LA for the better part of a year.
We'll get to hear the carnage on February 12th...

I think Clear Channel chose the wrong station to put Delilah on. They should have chosen KOST because it's a Soft AC station. A Soft AC show like Delilah doesn't belong on a Rythmic AC station like KBIG.

Apparently Delilah *IS* coming to KBIG but it will not be the same syndicated show apparently. They will continue with the rhythmic a/c and not be playing any SOFT music typical of DULL-Lilah

As I’ve said before, Delilah is not wanted by the KOST programming department.
Why in the world would they want a show that their own “Lovesongs on the Coast” program demolished back in 1998. Besides, they have a great host (the same one who beat Delilah) who is signed to a contract for a while. The listeners LOVE Karen Sharp. Yes, Delilah would be a better fit on a Soft AC, but her track record in LA is dismal. She wants to do a Lovesongs/Dr. Laura style show and KOST listeners don’t want that either.

I can tell you with all certainty that this was corporate cramdown. When word rippled through the company that WLTW was picking up the show, Chachi (KBIG PD) probably knew that his station was the next likely target, and I'm sure he acquiesced against his better judgement.

That sucks, but ladies and gentlemen, this is how radio operates in 2007.

As nuts as this sounds, the little lady just might pull it off this time. It's going to be a custom show, done live from Seattle after she finishes the national show (hence the 10pm start). Accroding to the scoop from "LARadio.com", half the music will be programmed by KBIG, and the other half will come from Seattle. All the calls will come from K-BIG listeners......assuming enough of them call in.

And maybe Thump Radio will move either to STAR or Hot 92.

Thump will be on the weekend, most likely late Sunday's and possibly on Friday's after midnight as Boogie Night's will be on 7 to midnight on Friday's.
Thump is as bad a fit for STAR or HOT as I think Delilah is for KBIG.

Yes, her deal with KBIG is similar to WLTW's except that in New York Jim Ryan supposedly has total control over the music. Will she pull it off?
I personally doubt it, but stranger things have happened. She could end up being another Tom Joyner. Someone who just doesn't cut it in the LA
market, but gets multiple chances. If she does have success it will be more a function of how well the KBIG programming department puts the show together and less to do with her being some great personality, which she isn't. I'll wait to hear just how it's going to sound as I'm a little curious. But really, I think she's going to have a tough road to travel. Weather she can even generate calls especially at first is a question. The audience may need to be trained.
So will KBIG's audience be any more interested in Delilah than they were with the show that talked to dead people? That's a BIG question too...

Karen Sharp has been doing her show at KOST for EIGHTEEN years, so there was ZERO chance of CC putting Delilah's show there in spite of their obssession with pleasing Wall St. as opposed to their listeners, which has been the #1 problem with radio in general since corporate America (CC/CBS & others) started their radio station buying spree several years ago.

WLTW PD Jim Ryan was quoted in R&R a couple of years ago as saying that having a show such as Sharp makes more sense than a syndicated one, due to her longevity at KOST, and her superb ability to relate to callers & listeners.

KBIG is undoubtedly the most schizophrenic radio station in America; between Thump Radio, Kid Kelly's 'BackTrax 80s' show every Sunday morning, and the Hot AC countdown show hosted by Casey Kasem, I have no idea what the heck they're doing over there.

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in this thread, so perhaps I missed it and maybe you can point it out to me: Delilah has already been on in San Diego, started in Boston, and already was on KBIG. I ougtta know, I board-oped her show in San Diego.

This is all very old news, I think.

True, and that's really the fault of the regional programmer and above. They also have a PD who had little or no experience in programming. He seems to be a nice enough fellow, but may be in over his head.

Yes, it's been mentioned quite a bit. She failed "big time" on KBIG back in 1998

I have to wonder.

Will it be a "Slow Jam" type program? I could see KBIG doing that, don't think anyone has a "mass appeal" Slow Jam show on right now in that slot(Hot airs Laboe, V's program is targeted towards blacks, KGGI is Riverside). You know, stuff that CHR/Rhythmics used to do(some still do).
