Delilah moving to B98.5

Not surprisingly, syndicated Delilah chose the only place she could go in Atlanta-- B98.5. Dan Kearney said they'll try to have the equipment ready to get her on the air by tomorrow; if not, she'll start January 2 on B98.5. For years, B98.5 tried to compete with Delilah, giving up on specialty programming in recent times in favor of regular programming. Given that Delilah had only one option, Kearney said Cox was able to negotiate better-than-average terms with Premiere, the Clear Channel-owned syndicator.

Would a station have to pay cash for an evening syndicated show like hers? Or is it a barter?

So those this mean that B98.5 will start their Christmas music much earlier next year, considering Deliliah is on their station now?

not necessarily...
Delilah offers both a Christmas-tune and non-Chjristmas tune feed during the holidays:
affiliate stations can choose if/when they go all-Christmas with Delilah

I know that the station I used to work at (98.5 WTFM, Tri-Cities, TN/VA Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol #99) has a barter deal with Delilah. I don't know if a station can choose to pay straight cash or barter spots, but that's how they do it, as of July, 2006, anyway. Doubt it has changed.

Now that Sunny 93.9 in Raleigh is gone, does anyone know if Delilah will pop up on another station soon? Right now, the closest surviving affiliate is WMAG in G'boro...

And they did. She is on right now.

Has a man ever listened to her show on purpose? I tuned in by accident one time and felt my testosterone level drop about 90%. And this is coming from someone who thinks Project 96 is waaay too testosterone fueled.

anyone recall the show "love songs" with Rebecca Stevens that used to be in the same time slot as Delilah but this dates back to 1985, I think the show got canned sometime in the late 90's, but she was a fixture on B98.5 since they had the moniker "WSB 99FM" (they had just switched to A/C from standards only a year or so before IIRC). I think Delilah might fare well over at 98.5.

This show is just plain junk. For Females only.. Who wants to hear love songs, and sad stories.. I ask you.. WHO?

Personally, I can't stand Delilah. Of course, I'm not in her target demo either. The thing to remember about Delilah is that she rides your ratings. So long as B-98.5 remains strong in 25-54 females, Delilah will be strong as well. She's inoffensive enough to 25-54 females that most of them will sit through her show, but they also won't go out of their way to tune her in if there's a better alternative.

Any word yet if American Top 10 with Casey Kasem will be picked up on Sundays yet at B98.5? I wonder do all of these stations have to sign a contract with Delilah or Casey Kasem for a period of time or can they drop them when they please? I know of several stations out west that flipped to totally different formats and still played countdown shows related to their old formats that had nothing to do with their current formats.

I used to hear Deliah years ago on 98.7 The River (WYKZ-FM, a soft rock station) in my ex-home of Savannah. Believe me, that can be a drowsy show at times (Drowsy as in ZZZZZZZZZZ).

I remember Rebecca. She managed to take dedications from listeners without making every call about herself (unlike Delilah). B98 really fouled up when it exchanged "Love Songs" for the "Dream Doctor." Rebecca was very active with community charities too, back when radio was more local and hadn't been ruined by consultants.

She is waaaayyyy too sappy and syrupy for me. About 5 - 10 minutes is all I can stand, and then only when forced to listen by my wife, who loves it.

Delilah is very polarizing. People either love her or hate her. In my experience most radio folks can't stand her--but know she brings in an audience at a daypart previously very difficult for AC. An alternate for the format (and other formats through his voice tracking version) is John Tesh's show.

1980 - WSB-FM goes from easy listening to AC

1985 - Rebecca Stevens starts love songs

1985-1990? WSB-FM becomes "B98.5FM"

2000 - Rebecca Stevens fired, some guy (whose name I cannot recall) take over as host.

2002 - Dream Doctor starts.

2004 - Dream Doctor moves to 12AM-4AM in June, dropped altogether in October. Kelly McCoy voicetracks 7PM-10PM, automation 10PM-12AM.

The only problem with Delilah is that B98.5 has no control over the music. Whatever Delilah plays is what B98.5 has to deal with. If B98.5 could insert their own local playlist (like WLTW New York is allowed to), it would work perfectly. Deliliah's playlist is ultra soft, whereas B98.5's playlist is ultra upbeat.

Delilah's playlist decidedly NOT "ultra soft" Rodney. Even though I am not a fan--I am forced to hear some of her show several times a week. She (or most likely her programmers) has added considerable tempo in the last year. Your image of the softness may be historic and/or perceptual.

Here is B98.5's Top 20 most played titles for this week
1 Blunt, James You're Beautiful
2 Lifehouse You And Me
3 Powter, Daniel Bad Day
4 D.H.T. Listen To Your Heart

When I was working at WBBQ-FM in Augusta, I board-opped the show a couple of times, and I tried to tune in a few times when I was in the car, and couldn't get it. My wife even hates the show. Then, one day, she said "Tell me you love stories, tell me your heartbreaks. Tell me what's on your mind." Truth be told, she's a subtle dirt-digger. She's no different than Springer, or Povich, or Ricky Lake. She's just better at hiding it. Jtudor, you did better than me. When I had a choice, it was no more than 30-45 seconds, than my wife was screaming at me to change the station! :D

> Rebecca was very active with community charities too

Rebecca was very active in a lot of things, but we won't go there.

Then-PD Jon Kelly hired Rebecca from Z93, where she worked weekends. For some reason, she used to call me when she was on the air at Z93. I was on "Atlanta's 99 FM" at the time. She asked me about getting a job at WSB and I told her to call Jon. The rest is history. "Love Songs" was syrupy, but it worked.
