Delilah on B101.

On the way for some food tonight, I heard Delilah on B101. Thoughts?

I'm surprised the folks on Presidential couldn't find someone somewhere in the nation good enough to keep B101 "live and local" at night.

BTW, it wasn't the same feed that WLEV or WJBR were using. Delayed? Custom tracks?

I heard it too. Guess I won't be listening to B101 at night anymore. Not that they care, obviously.

So do they drop her for all-Christmas or just hope she goes all-Christmas at the same time?

I see on their website that they start her show at 8, instead of 7 when most stations start her. So the feed will probably be an hour behind the rest of them. It's all voicetracked anyway.

She does go all-Christmas. She has for at least the last couple of years.

I'm surprised they picked her up again. I thought they were actively searching for a local host.

I know she does but, with B and Sunny trying to beat each other to the holiday punch, if Delilah doesn't go all-Christmas when B wants to, will they just dump her for a while? That's what I was asking.

Quite a testament to the crappiness of radio. Either there's no one talented enough to do it or B didn't wanna cough up the necessary cash. I have to think it was a dearth of talent since B101 has never exactly been run on the cheap.

I'm really shocked at B-101. They had her before then dumped her. Now she's back? The # 1 AC radio station in Philly, if not perhaps one of the # 1 AC stations in the country doesn't have a live and local evening show?

The only thing I can theorize here is was Sunny perhaps on the brink of picking her up and B got wind of it and signed her instead? As annoying as she is, she does have a following and that may have really helped Sunny. Anyone like my theory?

I'm thinking that a large portion of B101 listeners couldn't care less where the programming is coming from, as long as it doesn't make them uncomfortable or think too hard.

Well, it wouldn't be surprising to find that Clear Channel was investigating a way to make Sunny 104.5 even less expensive to operate than it already is--but Delilah's format is a bit of a departure from Sunny's so I don't think it would have made much sense. I suspect B's talent search just came up short.

Could John tesh be far behind?? I don't live there. Just seems a lot of those
AC stations are putting him on after Delilah to block him in the market.

Highly unlikely on B101.... The Tesh folks arent letting his show go on solely in overnights anymore.... only 7-mid or daytimes (CC's LiteFM/Norfolk runs him in AM Drive, KSMJ/Bakersfield (Smooth Jazz) in mornings too...CIQX/Calgary (Smooth Jazz) in mid-days AND again 7-mid..... others in mid-days or afternoons, but most 7-mid).. they did some overnight deals early on for the program when building the affiliate base, but now that he's got 170+ stations (I think only about 30 of them are overnights, and they are currently "grandfathered in")... overnights ain't on their radar... I'm pretty certain of that. I know two stations that wanted Tesh's show for overnights, and were turned down. Plus.... the Tesh folks are "coverting" the grandfathered ones to 7-mid....

They don't "need" to put his show on overnights... Tesh's show also is offered in a way that stations can use their own music, hence he's gone on some significant HOT AC's that "D" certainly wouldn't fit on... he recently added KPLZ/Seattle (and has had a huge impact vs. her there... in her home mkt no less)... KIOI/San Francisco... and even KDMX/Dallas.... all in the evening daypart (I think KIOI and KPLZ both run him twice... 7-mid and AGAIN in overnight... but I'm sure the deal required the 7-mid in order for them to be ok'd to do the encore afterward.

My bet, given that Tesh already has his show on AC, Hot AC, Jazz, and Oldies stations... is that he'll pop up in the market on another station to go head to head against D. Which format, I dunno... but head to head, its an interestin' battle.

> Tesh's show is far superior to D's. Timely too...this week he went to the Gulf region as part of an effort to help raise money for Hurricane victims. On air reports flying in a helicopter. What amazes me though is that if B were going to put on a syndicated show at night, why bring back someone who has failed on two stations? Chris Conley is usually pretty smart...not this time.

Like it or hate it, Delilah's show is hardly a failure in the audience it seeks to attract. Her WMGK show went away when the '70s format was born; Magic as a whole was trailing badly in the AC battle. That doesn't consisute a failure of her show. Likewise, the fact that B101 had the opportunity to bring in someone like Mary Marlowe didn't in and of itself mean Delilah's show was a failure.

Just like Howard Stern and countless others, she targets her audience and superserves the niche. I can't stand the show--nor can I stand Howard--but I respect the ability of anyone to succeed in a crowded marketplace.

B dropped Delilah to put on a "local" love songs show at night. If Delilah had been a huge "ratings" smash, why would they have spent the money on a local salary? Delilah's second failure in Philly was on 95.7 during one of their recent format efforts as Mix. in fact, her stay in 95.7 was "short lived"..less than 6 months I believe. She may be a success in some of the surrounding smaller markets but her show won't fly in Philly. Why should now be any different than before?

Forgot about Mix...then again, most people forgot about Mix. But since they went from a soft sound to Boogie Nights, it was a change in direction that matched one of the countless shifts in the station.

Frankly, three people listening to anything on Mix would have been a smash hit at that point.

For the record, I never said "smash." We're talking about the use of the word "failure." If dropping a show is the criteria for failure, B101 has twice had locally hosted love song shows and replaced them with Delilah. It's the other side of the same coin....if those were such smashing successes, why replace them with Delilah?

Probably cost. And if the cheaper syndicated show brings in a roughly similar audience at a lower price, it's a success from a business standpoint.

At this point, cost is probably the reason...you're right about that. And Jerry Lee can take the savings and buy more TV advertising for the B. Must be great to work for a local owber with deep pockets.
