Delilah out in Chicago

Seems they have booted Delilah on WLIT in Chicago. Brought in John Symons who hosted Love Notes on crosstown LoveFM for years. How long will she last on WLTW?

". . . where the corn grows tall".

Hate to say it, but Chicago is right in the middle of tall corn, and she didn't work out at all:)) Maybe, it's where big apples grow???

She works best when there's limited choices on the dial....which is most of the country, unfortunately.

*Whisper* If you don't count those out of town DX AM stations.... ;D

Yes, she seems to work in smaller markets where she's on the only AC station in town and the choice is between that and bird-delivered music that doesn't appeal to the AC listener (i.e. classic rock, etc.). Option number 2 is that she ends up on the biggest and most popular signal in a smaller market and listeners stick around out of habit.

Two examples of that come to mind immediately: WZID Manchester, NH (a ratings juggernaut) and WSRS Worcester, MA (another). Neither are stations in "corn" or "hillbilly" markets, in fact both metros feature a relatively high income/education audience. The thing is: "Delilah" doesn't drive the ratings on those stations; she just coasts on their coattails. Her presence on both is a corporate - not a local - decision. I'd bet the ranch that a local host would do just as well (or better) on either station than "Delilah's" miserable tear fest.

Funny, we were just blogging about this yesterday and now it's clear that "Delilah's" big market popularity is 0 for 3 in the top 3 markets. Clearly, people with choices know a horrible show when they hear it. :p

Bad as this might sound, she may stay in New York unless they want to stop the hemorrhaging now. She was dumped in LA and now Chicago and if there is a god she'll get dumped in New York too, it's a terrible show. Why Premiere grabbed her from Jones is a mystery except that she was already an established entity with a large list of stations. But CC/Premiere had so many more talented hosts at their stations to choose from that they could’ve syndicated. I hear that they were talking to KOST's Karen Sharp for a while but stopped talking when they picked up Delilah.

The question then would be, who would they replace Delilah with? Not J.J. Kennedy - she's too "old" by Clear Channel's standards.

Delilah's show is sappy and midwestern and she didn't even work there!
I'd predict it's a matter of time before it's dumped from LTW.

Problem is everybody on this board cares more about radio at night than owners do. Truth is radio in all market sizes pulls in insignificant revenue after 8pm. The big advertisers don't want and America is watching TV. Deliah seems safe to these guys. A GM doesn't walk in the next morning and hear from offended listeners or a host that didn't show up. They can focus their time on the key money hours. She's just comfortable dependable and an easy fill. Bet you most GM's have only heard her on the demo tape.

While that's true and it's evident she is just filler, the numbers in that time slot have decreased. Syndicated programming may work at saving money especially for non prime time slots but Delilah actually drives people away. Not exactly what CC wants, money making hour or not.

When Ed Schultz was on in Salt Lake City (the first time), people called threatening to burn down the station. Literally. That doesn't mean he is a bad host. Similarly, Delilah's failure in "faster" places like NYC, LA, and Chicago, does not make her a bad host. It means there are fewer people in those markets interested in her format. There's a reason Salem's CCM station in LA is on a poor-signaled FM covering parts of Orange County. If that same signal covered only downtown LA, Hollywood, and Century City, people would be threatening to burn it down, too. Same point applies to Delilah.

I never heard anyone saying that in any way that they wished anything bad for Delilah. I bet she is a nice person that does not mean
people enjoyed her show. For you to equate people who did not like her show to people who want to burn her studios down, that is just
wrong. I don't know about the Ed Schultz situation you were talking about if it's true that is really sad, if you don't like someone's show
change the channel. If people want to hurt a host for what they say or because they don't like the music they play that say's more about
our country than it does about Delilah or Ed or any other host.

I'm not a big fan of Delilah, but look at other stations in our area, WRNQ's "Lite-FM" at 92.1 still has Delilah on and so does B-95.5 up in Albany. They didn't go anywhere with Delilah after all. Delilah pulled the plug last year when it was on WHUD.
